Hello FF. Is there an automatic version of the Dacia? I don't like manual gearboxes much and intend to avoid them on ALL future cars.

Good question as I also an automatic favour person

Rolling around at this comment. It happened to me in Italy! I came back to the campsite to find that car had been moved about 100m. When I asked how they did it, the reply was 'Signore, it wasn't difficult!' In fact, no need to open the roof. On mine you could unlock either front door by loading the handle to one side while turning. Something inside caught, and pop! the door opened.

I had a Jawa motorbike that you could start and ride with a 4" nail.

Yes I had a CZ motorbike that could be switched on with a small screwdriver and then started, strange beast the gear lever was also the kickstarter, no choke you just tickled the carburetor to flood it so it could be started.

I am really thinking of getting one of these estates next year , keep me updated how it goes @Fab Foodie
We currently have a meriva and its ok but a right ball ache to get bikes on the roof and the boot is to small to stick bikes in as well as kids in the back but we dont do a lot of mileage , maybe 6000 ( ?) a year and only a couple of motorway runs a year so im really tempted .
Do the seats have height adjustment ? Mrs ck is very small so has to have the seat high and well forward .

Jawas and CZs were pretty much identical, apart from colour scheme and engine capacity. My Jawa had the infamous combined gear lever and kickstarter too. The number of times I mashed my toes to bits, trying to start it after a stall in traffic ... And the tickler instead of a choke, that was amusing. It would start fine from cold, but not when hot, unless I turned the petrol off at the tap about 1/4 mile before my destination and let the carb run dry. The bike was honestly a heartbreaker, ugly, crude and unreliable. On the positive side, by the age of 20 I could strip a 2-stroke engine to the crankcases and back up again, in the dark, blindfold, and with one hand tied behind my back.

Hi
Regarding the seats, IIRC it's only the Laureate Prime that has the adjustable height seat and steering wheel.
I've not fitted a bike in the boot yet (with Wheels off) to see if that's possible (well other than the Brommie). It's not a tall car so getting stuff onto roof bars will be pretty easy. The boot's pretty spacious and there is more storage under the boot floor.

Otherwise I've done around 7500 miles so far and it's sweet as a peach. A non-stop 700km run from Orleans to Abingdon was done in great comfort and no stress. I've just done Abingdon to Heathrow and back and got 65mpg which helps!
It's reasonably quiet at motorway speeds and the upgraded Stereo really kicks .... far batter than it has a right to!
It's not a dynamic car for throwing around twisty roads, but other than that it's just fine. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Certainly worth a trip to the dealers.

Had a look on saturday at the abiance prime in the new chestnut " free " colour ", compared to the megane in he same showroom you can see it built to a budget but ist a third of the price, more importantly Mrs CK who will be using it 99 % of the time actually liked it , especially when even on dealer credit prices with no deposit i can get one for the same price im paying for an 8 plate vauxhall.I know it hasnt got lots of bells and whistles but i havent got them now and i dont really need them either for the school/ shopping runs and the occasional run to the sea side etc.

I've done nearly 20k miles on mine now, I'm regularly getting 60 to the gallon driving like a hooligan with the 1.5dci. 65+ with care. Cruises well on motorways, has good rear space and It's still comfortable to drive over very long runs and Mrs FF loves it too!
It's far better than it deserves to be for the price. Take one for a drive. A bit bouncy, but fun-enough. Bargain.

Cant be any bouncier than a top heavy meriva.
