Oh no! My best wishes to him for a speedy recoveryMy 80 year old father hit a water-filled pothole yesterday, fell off his bike and broke his shoulder and his pelvisProbably the end of his 40+ years of cycling

You don't expect what appears to be a large puddle (just one of literally hundreds) across the road to be a bloody great pothole though. And given the flooded roads here and elsewhere, the only option would be to drive/cycle at about 1 mph... which obviously isn't a sensible propositionIn response to Accy..if the roads are bad and unknown, should we not be riding at a pace with which the conditions allow? We expect car drivers to do it, so why not us?
Thanks @Mrs M - I'm with him now. Lots of pain but should eventually get better
Twice over the years I have hit potholes hard enough to rotate the bars downwards, but never yet come off. I try to ride far enough out so that there's likely to be space either side of a hole in front of me. Dark, wet weather and the glare from traffic don't help with seeing them in time, though.

There is zero evidence that a pot hole was involved. If you read the article someone from her club says a friend saw them filling in pot holes on that road. That's it. That's all the evidence that there is.
Crappy paper makes stuff up to exonerate a driver involved in a fatality.
