Cutting a slice of malt loaf... is there a knack?

I love malt loaf... AKA Soreen, but why oh why is it so bloody difficult to slice and retain is rectangular shape? I've tried chopping, slicing and sawing with both straight and serrated blades... but always end up with something that really doesn't resemble a 'slice'... more a streak.

I tried that ready sliced Soreen once, but each slice had bonded with its neighbour and when finally prised apart, it too resembled a splodge rather than a slice.

Is there a trick or a method that gives the perfect slice of malt loaf every time?

TIA

Having consulted the local home economist...she uses a serrated blade but not sure if that makes a difference, slicing through not sawing, and recommends cleaning the blade after each slice to avoid sticky mess.
