And will probably be refused reentry to the uk. Nothing unusual.

Hopefully it'll get sorted soon, because our bowling attack is seriously weird.

One injury prone quick, one injury prone spinner and two kids right now?

I know pickings are slim, but that doesn't fill me with confidence.

Its a bit unbalanced without Stokes being able to bowl, but hardly weird. For the majority of circumstances we will have 2 of the 4 quicks (Jimmy, Wood, Atkinson, Robinson) and 2 of the specialist spinners (Leach Ahmed Hartley Bashir) with Root to be the 5th bowler / 3rd spinner. Leach I'd expect to play most games if fit, so its one for the other 3. Without Stokes bowling, going in with 1 quick and 3 specialist spinners is way too risky, which as shame as Ahmed is a real point of difference and an attacking spinner, but I cant see him having the control to bowl long spells, which puts a bit of pressure on Root.

Hartley and Bashir are both tall, the theory is their extra bounce will be an asset as although India pitches tend to turn, its often slow turn and the Indian batsmen are strangely :okay: good at playing spin.

I think Ahmed may well play 1st test, not least because Bashir is stuck in England and Hartley is a SLA, same as Leech (albeit a good bit taller)

edit to add: we're gong with Wood and 3 spinners! Gulp. I guess this new england dont take the safe option!

Well, looks like Bashir's visa issue has been sorted, which is a good thing.

I'd have gone (possibly) with the experience of Dawson as a spin option, chucking kids in for an away debut in India is seriously risky.

Dawson too similar to Leach, i.e. not that tall SLA, it is risky with 2/3 rooky spinners, but at least they are on spin friendly pitches in India. Tours to the sub continent are the only times that your not 1st choice spinner is going to get to play though.

True. And I suppose it's better to give the kids the experience as I don't think anyone is expecting much from us. Avoiding a whitewash would be a bonus!

Its certainly not a boring test match so far...its far from a batting paradise, and pace bowling appears to be overrated, so credit to England for going with 3 / 4 spinners. A Geoff used to say, hard to judge a good score until both teams have batted, but Indian definitely on top.... Root and Bairstow going so quickly after lunch did for us

Most English batters have got themselves in. Scored 20-30 and then got out. So it’s going to take concentration to bat well.
The worry with a low score is that it only takes one Indian to get a big score and we are done for.
