interesting, so if wearing a helmet it has to comply with the rules - that now incorporates the extra bits on the back that are there to protect you if you turn your head away from a bouncer - but (sensibly in my view) you can elect to go without on a hot day against the spinners.

Reads to me like they don't have to wear a helmet even against the quicks, which is madness.

technically yes, but I don't think anyone is daft enough to do that nowadays.

I think the rule was drafted in the aftermath of Philip Hughes death, and aimed at making sure the new helmet standard was adhered to (although ironically experts reckoned it wouldn't have saved PH, which was an unfortunate freak injury). There hasn't been an issue with people not wearing a helmet against the quicks, so no rule is needed. It would also be hard to define between quick and slow bowling, so easier to leave it to common sense as to when to were a helmet

Yeah, the neck guard thing was definitely after Hughes (which was 9 years ago, making me feel old).

I seem to recall a bit of grumbling from players about them being uncomfortable and restricting movement too much at the time. Stokes in particular sticks out for that one, though I could be mistaken.

yeah Cooky is probably our finest opener ever and to combine with the captaincy - that on another level. Also one of the few to win the ashes down under and a farmer and all round good egg. He's had an outstanding career. Interestingly only Leesy has outscored him i county cricket since he retired from internationals too.

Big un today! Obviously could go either way, but my money is on India, they are in great form.

One off games. Anything can happen. India look the most rounded whilst Pakistan are simply continuing their decline.

I see India's number four batter didn't wear a helmet against the spinners, but put one on against the Pakistani quicks.

Looking at earlier posts, I'm assuming that's within the rules.

Odd to see a batter's full face.

Pakistan are currently ranked second in the world at ODI, hardly a team in decline just struggling for form. They were cruising until the 30th over too, looking good for around 300 before the collapse.
