30 for the last wicket was unexpected, but very handy. Would have felt more confident defending 300 plus, especially as we've apparently forgotten how to bowl.

300 plus would have given the bowlers something to to work with, at the moment they need to break this partnership and start taking wickets.

Can't see where we're getting a wicket from right now.

And another useless Buttler review to top things off.

Long way to go, better to fluff your lines in a fairly meaningly group stage game....

Not sure I agree with you there. We've just been mullered by a way below strength New Zealand side and our NRR is shocking. Nobody watching that is going to fear anything.

Personally I think playing an ODI series against NZ so close to the tournament was a mistake.

After an early wobble against the Dutch, Saud and Rizwan have steadied the ship. And as I type that Saud has just chipped to short mid-wicket, ooops!

Quite like the Dutch, usually one of the more reliable associate nations. And you never quite know what you're going to get with Pakistan which is entertaining.

Was asked earlier why India weren't the opening game at the World Cup. I don't know the answer to that but it does seem strange that they don't start until 4 days in, it's not like it wouldn't be popular and I'm pretty sure that for the last few tournaments it's been a host nation on day one?

Ravindra was particularly brilliant. Our bowling was hilariously inept.

have to agree with that, our bowling was very poor. One thing that struck me was how small the crowd was? Or is it just that the stadium holds 130 odd thousand? A contrast to the rugby in France where even the smaller nations are filling the stadiums?

Aye, felt the same about the crowd. I think around 30,000 were in by the end of the game and were rattling around in that cavern. Not a great advert for an opening game featuring the world champions and their previous final opponents.

The website for the tournament takes you to a broken link when trying to register so I can't find out pricing, but it seems to be about 1,000 rupees for the cheapest ticket, which is a tenner.

Apparently there were ticketing issues and the fixture list kept changing so forward planning was tricky.

The crowd today doesn't look great either.

Re: the rugby, an interesting comparison, because their cheapest tickets for the pool stages start at €10 so pretty similar. Smaller stadiums, possible better transport links and only having to commit 80 minutes to a match rather than a whole day?

just shy of 105,000 for the 2022 IPL final, that's more like it

There is also the logistical challenges and expense of travelling to the different cities / grounds in India, apparently hotel prices have gone thru the roof.

True, but there's plenty of travel involved with the rugby too. France will have played all four of their pool games at different stadia and France ain't small!
