I've had a couple of hard to trace squeaks. The first from the right pedal area turned out to be not the pedal, but the cleats on my right shoe.....solved by taking the cleats off and oiling the screws and pieces. The 2nd squeak took me ages to trace as it was there one day minute, gone the next. It wasn't until I was laid in the bath one evening that I realised it was my knee creaking! The solution when cycling is to stop pedalling and straighten my leg until my knee pops. Beat that!
Now that would be annoying after spending ages looking
