Not a country, but I likely won’t visit Antarctica again. Not because it was awful, it was wonderous, but it is a long way from here and I’m unlikely find myself in South America able to hitch a lift there in the future.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Whenever I have been to Wales it's been raining. Does it ever not? 🤣

It does

There are loads of countries I will never go back to. Not because I don't like them but because I no longer want long journeys to get to and from my holidays. I have done all the long haul flights I want to and from now on I will stick to Europe. There is so much across the channel that I still haven't seen, and so many places in the UK that I want to see again. To my shame I have never been to Ireland

Anywhere where an armed guard was deemed necessary by my employer. And they did not spend money unnecessarily.

The closing phrase at the surviving a hostage situation training course brought it into focus
"Remember that the folks at corporate ( head quarters) are doing everything possible to secure your release. But, do remember it is company policy not to pay ransom for employees."

I got sent to Libya just after Gadaffi was killed.
I traveled everywhere with an armed guard and was woken up most nights by heavy arms fire.
It was the most scared I’ve ever been. Looking back I should have told them I wasn’t going. I didn’t get paid enough for that kind of stuff.

Quite, I had nearly 10 years of alternating between being in the US, both sides, and the East, Singapore, HK, Japan and every third month popped across to Auz & NZ. Then came home via the US. 3 week circuit.

In the meantime I was responsible for Europe.

I have been on so many long haul flights that I am happy to never do that again. Even turning left made no difference.

I have learned that the UK is beautiful and needs caring for. If I cannot cycle there then I'm not too interested

My BiL is Libyan. He was brought to the UK by his parents in the 80's, aged 10, and neither he, or his parents, has been back since.

Surprised to see the number of people who wouldn't go back to the US. I lived there for 4 years, and while it's not without its flaws, there are plenty of positives about the country IMO. Particularly in the mid-west and east coast, though I spent most of my time there out on the West Coast. That said, I think you get a far different impression of a country when you spend more than a couple of weeks there on holiday.

The only countries I've actively disliked being in at the time I was there, and wouldn't want to go back to under any circumstances, were the US and India.

There are several places where I lived and worked, and travelled to, in the 60s, 70s and 80s to which I'll never return, as the situation in them is so changed that a return to them would be all but impossible. I liked them well enough when I was there, though. Then there are the countries I lived and worked in, and visited, in the late 90s and for the 10 years following - Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia and several South Pacific Islands. Simply too far away, although I'd go back like a shot - especially to New Caledonia! - if travel were all of easier/faster/more affordable/eco-friendly.
I'm not at all familiar with sub-Saharan Africa, Central or South America or China, but I've been to big chunks of the rest of the world - often for work - and I've liked lots about almost everywhere I've been.

I'm not going back to Amsterdam again. I booked a hotel near the university because I thought it would be in a decent area. The university is actually in the middle of the Red Light District and the hotel was opposite a brothel with a black prostitute in the window. On the first night I was woken up by a group of men discussing whether they would 'f*** a n*****' and on the second there was a full scale brawl going on under my window. It's not the tolerant, easy going place they would have you believe.

I visited in my early 20s, a few months before the Yom Kippur war.

While I knew the history of Israel, and the visit to Yad Vashem was humbling, I was taken aback by the arrogance and, frankly, racism of many of the people I met.

On a tour of Jerusalem, one of our party asked the guide what was going to happen to the occupied parts of East Jerusalem. He simply pointed to all the flats being built by Israel on the slopes and said "what do you think?"

As has been mentioned up thread, Morocco and Jamaica. In Morocco I went with 11 other guys to climb a mountain we ended up being threatened with knives on 3 different occasions and some local tried to push me off the side of a mountain.
I went to Jamaica on honeymoon, the locals were very lazy and trucculent more threatening than welcoming and hassled you all the time. Some guy tried to rob me at knife point on the beach, I had no money on me so just told him to go do one, and luckily he did.
Worryingly 2 people have mentioned Malta , I was intending to go there in November for a short break.

From my understanding of the Malta posts it's just that, rather than it being a shithole, once you've been there and seen everything there's nothing new to go back for a second time.
