That's quite a peloton building up there @ColinJ . Maybe you could get a rolling road closure organised.
Yes - that's why I want help with navigation and 'crowd control'! On rides where we had more than 10 riders, it was very easy for the back of the group to lose sight of the front. There may well be places where there is no phone signal, so we don't want that to happen!

Has big @Steve H signed up yet? Always good to have a decent sized windbreak

Thanks for the nudge @potsy. I'm out of the country with work at the moment so not been on Cyclechat much.

Wow - 24 hours since starting the thread, and there's four pages of responses and 20+ interested riders. Awesome. It's been a long time coming Colin, but it's great to have you back in action. We have the potential here for a pretty big Cyclechat ride. Maybe need to let the cafe know to get the 'emergency chairs' out!

I should be in for this ride, and all being well, I'll start with the guys in Hebden, and do the 100miles.

I have come up with a cunning plan!

Some people fancy a 100 miler (161 km) and will be fit to do it. Some would clearly prefer the 100 km option (actually about 101 km). Tubbycyclist is riding from Hebden Bridge to Whalley (and back after the main ride), which by my preferred route is 34 km each way. Do you see where I am going with this ...?

How about shelving Morecambe as destination this time (though I would like to do it at a later date) and doing the 100 km loop instead? Those who want to get an imperial century in can meet in Hebden Bridge for an early start and ride over to Whalley. I'm sure that tc would be happy to lead the way, though if I am fit for it, I would start here as well.

Those who want to do just 100 km meet at Spring Wood after the Hebden Bridge departure time and ride down the hill into Whalley where you adjourn to a cafe and wait for the 100 milers (105 milers!) to arrive?. I know pretty much how long it takes to get to Spring Wood from HB, barring mechanicals so I can work out the times.

A list of people who might want to do the ride:
  • ColinJ
  • Accy cyclist
  • bromptonfb
  • Rockymountain
  • Pennine-Paul
  • potsy
  • MartinQ
  • coffeejo
  • Christopher
  • dan_bo
  • Alun
  • middleagecyclist
  • Mickthemove
  • Martin Archer
  • SatNavSaysStraightOn
  • smokeysmoo
  • pubrunner
  • skudupnorth
  • colly
  • tubbycyclist
PS Usual CycleChat forum ride rules apply - nobody left behind, wait at the top of hills The rides are not fast and are more about chatting, laughing and scenery, so don't come if you are desperate to average more than (say) 10-12 mph. I guess that the 100 km loop will take 5-7 hours and HB to Whalley about 2 hours each way but it depends on the speed of the slowest rider. Allow extra time for the cafe stop.

I'm not sure that Aspirin plus Clexane is a good idea! I know that I am not supposed to take Aspirin, Ibuprofen etc. because of the increased bleeding risk. For that reason, Paracetamol is the only painkiller that I am supposed to take these days though I saw that bleeding is one of the possible side-effects with that too!

The 100km option sounds like a fine plan to me !

I think I may cycle from Manchester to Whalley and do the metric loop unless the weather is really nice/I'm not too tired and then I may cycle to HB and do the imperial loop (this is all supposing SWMBO gives me permission for a day out). Decisions, decisions!

I have added a ride profile to the original post.

I found this video of the Trough of Bowland climb, to whet your appetites! (Hopefully we will get a nice sunny day like that one.)

Hi Colin. I would like to join you and the others. Whalley is pretty close to me so I will cycle to Spring wood and meet you all there.
It would be my 1st ride in a group, only ever rode solo..:shy:
Checked on my shift rota and I'm down to work that Saturday. Will try and get one of my work colleagues to swap shifts or if that fails book a days holiday..
look forward to meeting all of you..
