Or, the car driver misjudged his/her approach speed?

Quite possibly, but I’ve seen it so many times on the A1 or A19 HGVs just pull out to overtake another without giving two hoots with regard to anything alongside, just to participate in a 56mph v 55.7 mph drag race, for mile after mile

It would have been about 1998/99 and had been relegated to being the yard shunter, I remember it, as one day, whilst going to reception to sign in at this site, the lad that drove it had just uncoupled a trailer, and jumped back in to go move another, but had forgotten to disconnect the airline, i'm shouting to stop, he's looking out of the window with an expression of "Eh" until there was a loud rush of air & it stopped dead, it was a bit rusty, I'm surprised the cab didn't fall off!!

I've maybe relates thus story before, but Salvesens operated a huge fleet of Mercedes tractor units up to the naughties, I used to book them in for 6 weekly inspections, MOTs etc.
Old units got used as shunters, gradually got less cared for and abused until they failed because of a worn out clutch or gearbox...at that time, a circa £6k repair.
So the fleet manager came in, took details and arranged for them to go to auction . I asked him how much would they make, surely they're just scrap value, but apparently they'd go for 5 or 6k, get shipped to Africa where almost every part would find a use. Surprised me...

I’ve seen several elderly Bedford MK/ML HBAT’s on Hull docks waiting to be shipped out, probably to Africa, (Humpety, Bumpety, Army Truck)

I remember seeing this, as a 14year old, at the local cinema

It's still one of my favourite films, I've lost count of how many times I've seen it!!

The only film released that year to take more money, 'up to today' (cinema/video tape/DVD) was Star Wars,

Jackie Gleason & Son we’re hilarious in that film, some belting lines

Mike Henry, who was a Tarzan, plus he portrayed (Colonel) Donald Penobscot, 'Hotlips' husband in M*A*S*H (tv series, not the film)

Plus, an awesome guitar player, playing a truck driver!!!
Whom, in an ironic twist, had previously written a song, that was covered by an ex-truck driver!! (& played guitar on that cover version)
'Guitar Man', as covered by Elvis
