Will there be space for large amounts of the finest home made flapjack? It needs to last for the whole trip ... maybe you DO want that bar bag after all ...;) Not sure how much space there is left in @Fubar's trailer
T
Not if there is limited space for storage and he is attached :hugs:to his current bikes ...T
= N + 1 !

QED

You don't really need a new bike, @MikeW-71 ... any bike will do for short tours ... I've been along the Outer Hebrides and around Arran (yes, all the hills ) on a 5-speed Raleigh Chloe, which cost £80 new about 20 years ago ... a fine bike it was, even though it was extremely cheap and cheerful in bright pink .

Haha ... that reminds me of when I did my first Pedal for Scotland, on Gonzales, 5 speed recycle a bike vintage item.
Did not read the route at all, imagined it was along the canal, had a day off, said to myself ... yeah, let's do this ... :bicycle: at the time did not have a clue on how to use gears anyway, stayed permanently on third
How I managed the Avonbridge hill, scapling a few roadies in the bargain, I'll never know

It seems a bit odd to have two road bikes now and I'm thinking that something like the Revolt would be a little more relaxed. The Defy has done it's job and done it well, so time to move on. I'll then have a "workhorse" that can carry a bit more, an MTB and a road bike for having a blast on

And if I can carry a bit more, I have room for Flapjack :hungry:

I have mudguards for the carbon roadie now anyway, so I'll be sticking them on for winter and just keeping riding the thing. It's not like it will rust

I'll get to the LBS and have a go on it.

As there are now only 18 WEEKS :wahhey:left until this trip of pure awesomeness (that's only 3 6-week blocks, you know - that's just how my brain works:crazy:) it is worth turning your thoughts to your bike, luggage and packing.

I will be using my commuting bike, heavier than my normal road bike but with rack and panniers and more laid-back geometry - could be a grind up the hills though. My luggage plan is 2 pannier bags with a rack bag for phones, wallet, etc that I can easily detach and carry with me - decided against a bar bag as it would limit space for lights. I am NOT talking a rucksack as I hate carrying one on my back when cycling.

Clothes-wise might depend on the weather forecast that week but I reckon a couple of changes of bike kit, 1 pair light trews, couple of tee-shirts, 1 top and a pair of Converse (other retro footwear is available) socks and undercrackers for the weekend will do the job.

Remember as well that it will be worth having a supply of spare inner tubes (suitable for your tyres/wheels) for when the p* fairy calls.

What is everyone else planning?

To sneak away from work early on the Friday and join you on Arran, of course!
... with some cake and my toothbrush in the pannier (and maybe a few other bits and pieces )
The way things have been with work over the last wee while, they owe me over a month's worth of unpaid overtime :cycle: - which I'll of course never get back, even though it's supposedly exchangeable for time off in lieu

Just to confirm there is now a place available on this trip in the shared-dorm (probably suit male only) due to the sad withdrawal of @Brandane - reply here or PM me if interested. Cheers, Mark
