Yeah, but i still didn't say it. I just used the bold headline, because it was there. Maybe i should've deleted bits of it,but then that'd be censorship.
Fair enough, let's forget the comparison thing. Would you say that the legislation needs to be tighter or would you leave it up to individual employers whether to furlough? And where would you draw the line in terms of wealth? It strikes me that if the government are effectively putting people out of work, with lockdown measures etc, then the government should be looking after those people. Or rather the wealthy should be looking after them, but via the tax system.

Just thought i'd show you this one.

Mind you, they have been asking for financial donations when you click the link to the Guardian, for quite a while,so i'm thinking they're in a bit of a financial quagmire.
I think the Graun has been consistently loss making for some time, even before the recent drop in print circulation.

The government should've put a cap on who can qualify for the scheme. Yes,it'd be like means testing benefits, where some just above the threshold lose out,but that's better than just handing out money to those who do not need it. And yes i get the point about the wealthy paying lots of tax which somewhere down the line is used to support the furloughed scheme,but.....

Yes, I meant to expand on your point, not oppose it.

It does feel a bit weird that as someone who doesn't follow football I'm here defending a footballer against someone with a footballing avatar.
I follow 'Accy Stanley'. It certainly ain't football as you non footballing folk think football to be! It's more of a cult thing. Our club motto is 'The Club That Wouldn't Die'. I think we should add 'In Hope Rather Than Expectation'!

I guess it's kind of difficult politically to say 'your employees aren't allowed to work, but you still have to pay them.' I don't know what the solution is, and I would hope that those who are wealthy enough would choose to look after their employees. The furlough scheme does seem to be working well for some people, although I don't know specifics and I think the whole financial package should have been sorted much earlier to enable an earlier lockdown.

Remember that football is the great working class escape. The media that carry these stories about footballers and their supposed wealth are the same ones who are telling you that Johnson, Rees-Mogg et al are men of the people. The Daily Mail is owned by a viscount FFS. It's all a con, don't fall for it.

ETA: From a brief google search:

Wayne Rooney net worth ~£100m
Jacob Rees-Mogg net worth >£100m
Viscount Rothermere net worth $1.6bn

Can we retitle the thread to be "Celebs according to various tabloid newspapers, with a side order of envy and a dash of rose tinted glasses"?
That's been said sooo many times! By advocating non discussion of 'celebs',who i presume are all but a tiny amount, wealthier than posters on here and beyond, your saying we more or less can't call them.

It's also in the 'socialist' Mirror. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/wayne-rooney-leading-derby-players-21913476

Football used to be a working class sport, but now. The famous players of the 40's,50's,60's and to an extent the 70's were paid about twice the average working wage. Nowadays the top players are paid about 300 times the average wage. Then the working man has to pay around £40 a game to watch those who some would class as working class heroes.

I would imagine you sit pretty highly up the income bracket if you take everyone on the planet into the equation.
