View attachment 636089 A close shave. by rebalrid, on Flickr

Had this drawn by a chap at work in Buton upon Trent many years ago . Following a close shave during the first Phil and friends ride around the Peak District {2001 I think}. Brake fade whilst descending Mam Tor . Rapid to say the least . We could not make the right hander at bottom .Managed to stop in Barber Booth .

Pilot,Bagpuss .Stoker,Alan the engine

It being A Close Shave , the reason for the 'Wallace faces' ?

Yep , a 50 mph plus descent without working brakes .You bet:eek: Over heated rims .
The pervious descent down Holme Moss was also very rapid . It has less intense gradient overall .
It was the last time Alan went out riding as stoker .
Lack of a drag brake was the cause .
Took the Campy cantis off a fitted Magura hydraulic rim brakes ,far better modulation . No probems since .

:okay:

Try East Chevin, that's a quick descent, it's the scene of my fastest ever speed on a bike, helped by spinning out a 53 x 12..............

Maguras are great brakes, but rim destroyers, if there's any grit embedded in the pads
My RC100 had them as standard
