That actually happened to a small dog in our area. They put him out to do his business in the backyard just before bedtime and he didn’t come back. The owner went out looking for the dog, following the dogs tracks in the fresh snow he found they abruptly ended. Where they ended the snow was imprinted with the wings of a large owl.

A friend of my ex-Mrs had an eagle owl called Oscar; a huge thing that lived in its large aviary. They mentioned another eagle owl owner who did the leather glove thing and let it fly about ... until the day it returned with a terrier. Supposedly this was a true story of someone they knew

It would have to be a very small terrier as they struggle to take a cat. I believe there are Wild Eagle owls here after escapees have made good.

So perhaps a few of the handbag dogs could be at risk.

I was at a hawk display in Kent some years ago and despite the warnings we were given there was in the audience a small child with a cuddly toy. Then whooosh! There was a very sad child without a cuddly toy.

Fortunately the birds were Harris Hawks, not Eagle Owls, so matters were soon sorted out.

When I was a postie I was given quite a rural round for a while. First day I'm walking up to this cottage through the back garden and notice the big aviaries with Red Tail Kites, Hawks etc. Then I saw a mahoosive Eagle Owl sitting on a tree stump. I was seriously impressed as it was the size of a child.

Then it stood up, spread it's wings and hissed ferociously at me! Bloody hell - seriously scary and yes, I could believe it could take a terrier.
