For the budget, I really would just be looking at quality aluminium posts like the 3T Dorico Pro, or Ritchey WCS. I can recommend both.
OT a scool boy error on my part I failed to notice when I upgraded my frame (old one was cracked) the new frame was 31.6mm diameter (the old one was 27.2mm) and my carbon seat post didn't fit.
FFS, only seen two pics of snapped carbon seat posts and both have been bontrager which is on my winter bikeNice to see the vast majority of peeps can feel no difference in terms of comfort or performance. I think this shows that has to be the reality.
While the lightest carbon might be a teeny tiny bit lighter than the lightest alloy, the phenomenon in pic below is worth mentioning - especially if you (or the mechanic / prior owner) have not been super careful in tightening the seatpost clamp. Some alloy seatposts are plenty light enough - Thomson elite's e.g. are very popular, but I particular like the Raceface Turbine, its saddle clamp/adjust mechanism is simply fabulous.
I don't think that particular carbon seatpost will be very comfortable, ouchNice to see the vast majority of peeps can feel no difference in terms of comfort or performance. I think this shows that has to be the reality.

Does anyone else have an opinion on a ritchey wcs post
Why would you change from carbon to ally?My Cannondale came with a full carbon seatpost, I rode it a few times then changed it for an alu one.
PS: I have never been able to tell any difference in comfort between the two
My own proclivities towards carbon are well documented on here TBH, but in a nutshell I have seen a couple of snapped carbon posts, whereas I've never seen a snapped alu one in 40 years. Why would you change from carbon to ally?
