Nice to see the vast majority of peeps can feel no difference in terms of comfort or performance. I think this shows that has to be the reality.

While the lightest carbon might be a teeny tiny bit lighter than the lightest alloy, the phenomenon in pic below is worth mentioning - especially if you (or the mechanic / prior owner) have not been super careful in tightening the seatpost clamp. Some alloy seatposts are plenty light enough - Thomson elite's e.g. are very popular, but I particular like the Raceface Turbine, its saddle clamp/adjust mechanism is simply fabulous.

I don't think that particular carbon seatpost will be very comfortable, ouch:eek:

The post in that image (the Bontrager post) is the same as the Tifosi posts on Wiggle etc, I had one for a short while and sold it. It is not actually a true carbon post, it is some sort of budget blend (I mean the actual "carbon" post, not the fact that it has a bonded alloy clamp).

Why would you change from carbon to ally?
My own proclivities towards carbon are well documented on here TBH, but in a nutshell I have seen a couple of snapped carbon posts, whereas I've never seen a snapped alu one in 40 years.

Also I don't buy into the whole comfort/road buzz thing. My bike is no more or less comfortable with an alu post as it was a carbon one, and FWIW I have ridden my current road alu road bike farther than I ever did my cf bikes, so IMO carbon, (seatpost, and even frame), is totally unnecessary unless racing at the highest levels.

FWIW I have owned full cf road bikes and a full cf MTB, so I do have some good comparisons on which to base my own experience*.

*that's exactly what this is, my own experience. Other will have different experiences. Some will agree, some won't, I don't care TBH. I know what suits me and I'm very happy with that ^_^
