Rather like carbon forks the idea is to reduce road buzz.

Agreed, there are other reasons for buying a carbon post - like weight saving - but I seriously don't think that comfort is an issue..

What's your budget? I'd buy from Wiggle, Evans or Chain Reaction etc rather than eBay

Looks like you need this size - but double check Seatpost: Alloy 350mm x 27.2

If you must get one, get one that fits in your seat tube (ie, 27.2, 34.9 or whatever) - and get one fits your budget. If you are upgrading the stock post in your TDF, then almost anything will be better, carbon or ally.

Are there different makes of carbon posts? If so what's the difference apart from name

I have carbon on two bikes and aluminium on another - I can't tell the difference.

Same, tried carbon and alu posts at various price ranges, including at the higher end of the range, currently use a Zipp Alu post (Service Course SL), it is no less comfy than other posts I have used, but it looks better and is very robust!

There are many different brands of carbon post. But I can't answer the question about differences, because apart from weight, I don't think there are any.

Well there are obvious differences (shape, size, clamp design, etc etc), but the thing that really matters is, do those differences reward you the rider in any way, in which case I tend to agree with you, not really
