21k miles between oil changes. Make no wonder they grenade themselves.

Is that the Ingenium ? If so, no wonder.
A former colleague has the ingenium in his XF, loves the car, loves the way it drives, almost everything about it. Since I retired I havnt seen him to ask how it's getting on given its reputation. I know he services his cars very regularly anyway, probably at 6k like me...so he may be ok.

He'd have been gutted to find out about its unreliability, he brought into the hype of how good it was supposed to be when he first brought it.

Ingenium engine on Jaguar/Land Rover

Wise words from a young man, if you buy a Jaguar/LR make sure you can afford to buy it twice. What a crap design

watched a few videos on these along with wet belts changes on Fords, common issue but not on every one is the lack of proper servicing ? Majority have never seen an oil change ! Then need £1000 plus to get sorted.

However its put me off ever buying JLR or Ford, also can add in a few other marques .

Yes it's on their sales blurb, how wonderful, efficient the engine is. They raised it from 16k miles oil service intervals to 21k

Crazy isn't it.

I do 5k miles on every vehicle that has an ICE, regardless of the recommended service interval.

The extended intervals use a specific, and very expensive, long life oil that is designed to go far beyond that.

I remember when Ford began the extended service intervals with the Escorts.( to 20k iirc) I noted how they became not hard to start, but required much longer cranking. As soon as they were serviced all good (I used to take the pool cars to servicing, the Fords of the 90s seemed to suffer more than other makes)
There are cars I simply won't touch...JLR because they've.long since either been out my price bracket or any car really that would be classed as prestige, I can't or won't pay the required servicing and running costs)
Semi autos are off the list
CVTs are off the list.

Probably just because I'm older brought up with manuals, never had a problem with a manual in nearly 50 years of driving.

We had a Mini , with service plan . We bought it used at 1.5yrs old . Drank oil , told it was normal . Long life oil was in it , we had it three years . Used condition based monitoring for servicing intervals is my understanding. Never had an oil change in that time of the service plan which ran for a further 3yrs . Never again would I trust that . Yearly oil change as a minimum for me .

I've got a commercial derived vehicle. It's 3 years old, done 36k. Was serviced a year ago on 30k (it's first service). I'm very tempted to drop an oil change on it, but it's done 6k (12 months) since the service, and will get a 'pre paid' service in October.

Ooh, the Mazda reliability has took a hit 😄

I noticed my bonnet hadn't latched properly...perhaps the.lock needs greasing after the winter. Oiled it, no difference...hmmmm
Checked the release lever inside the car, there's a spring dropped off to return the lever . Wiggled it about and got the bonnet to consistently lock, need to investigate how to get the spring back on.

Well, the Aygo son's selling - still needs a MOT as my son hasn't got round to booking it in. He's somewhat impatient, thinking a week or two is too long, but it's still not done as he's left it. You need a good 3 to 4 weeks notice at my local garage as they are very busy. In the meantime, he's popped out to collect his engine hoist from a friend's industrial unit, and a replacement engine has just arrived on a pallet. That's going in a Seat Leon that son has bought to sell on.

Completely agree, especially if that oil also has to lubricate a turbo
