My age?? I can’t even cycle my mental age!!!

My target for this year is 116km (72 miles) and I nearly managed it last week with a 108.4km ride.

It sounds silly, I know - I had at least another 8km in my legs but I couldn't work out where next to ride. I'd already done a 4km loop at the end of my planned ride and I wasn't going to do another two 4km laps (in hindsight, perhaps I should have done). I put it down to tiredness.

Back to the route-planning ... and it should be just a bit easier when BST kicks in next weekend.

Anyone else getting close to their target this year?

I have a few 111 km (69 mile) routes plotted for Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cheshire so I hope to get at least 2 or 3 done up here by the summer. So far this year good weather and good motivation haven't shared days!

I will be going down to Devon soon and aim to do a metric century ride (cycling to Exmouth to do a loop to a cafe with my niece) and I will make sure to add the extra 11 km on.

Yes - and the distance on today's ride almost exactly matched my age to the day by accident. I reached a known distance from home and realised I just needed to add 3.5 miles to reach the age target and worked out what to do to reach it. Having had my 60th birthday in early February I've worked out that I'm 60.14 years old and ended up with 60.16 miles done!

Forgot to add to this. Completed last week with an extra 2 miles, and inclusive of 1034m climbing.
Can I put my feet up for the rest of the year? 😉

I've got until 31 Oct to enjoy riding 100+ km rides and that are equal to or greater than my age in miles. On 1 Nov I'll have to revise my target to 101 km. Then 16 Jun next year it goes up to 102km.

Edit: How you work out your fractional age is interesting. Is it:

* Current age plus (number of days since birthday / 365) - or maybe 365.25
* Current age plus (number of days since birthday / days in current year (365 or 366))
* Age in days divided by length of siderial year (365.256363004 days)
* Something else

It makes all the difference!

I did just over 80 miles last Wednesday which more covers my current age and my age following my birthday. However I was talking to a club mate yesterday and he always tries to ride his age on his actual birthday. He managed to do the 76 miles on the day which is in mid November😱 pretty impressive.

I can still do it!

That's my longest ride for at least a year and a half. Breathing problems put cycling on the back burner while tests were done (at NHS pace). I was eventually diagnosed with exercise induced asthma. The treatment which consists of 2 inhalers has made a fairly dramatic improvement. No more breathing problems. Now I just need to get some fitness back in the legs....
