Hmm .... Not that keen, but the worst thing is having to be put on hold for long periods of time in the first place! They should employ more staff, or note your place in the queue and call you back when they can talk to you.

Slow music - desperate attempt to keep you calm while waiting with complaint or issue.
Annoying music - trying to make you give up and go away.
Classical music - trying to be posh but actually naff.

I was on hold with someone a few years ago and there was a Beautiful South album as the hold music. I had the album version of "Don't Marry Her" blasting out. (If you don't know it, the song has the f-word it it a great deal). I am guessing a prankster employee in there. Anyway, cheered up my wait.
