A goat had a go at me once! We called it a draw.

I'd take a bull any day over Geese - they are the worst. Once they have you in your sights you had better run!

You stand a better chance of getting out its way if you run at it. It does work, don't believe me, try it next time.

Back to the question though. It is illegal in England to keep a bull in a field that has a PROW running through it. If you damage fencing trying to get away from it the owner/farmer is liable..
ColinJ, if you think of the paths around Slack Top & Slack Bottom, a bull was placed in the fields to keep people out.

I've not noticed that one but I have seen one in the field adjacent to the bridleway going over to the Haworth Old Road from Hardcastle Crags.

I descended another bridleway at speed once and came across a load of cows hanging about by a gate. I shooed them out of the way and was left staring into the eyes of a very large bull with a "Oi human - don't mess with my babes!" look on his face ...

I heard some time ago that someone got killed by a bull in the field the footpath went along. They have to be securely tethered, certain types of bull are more prone to attack too it seems?

Probably had it wondering what you were going to do & getting ready for its "fight or flight moment". Sneaking up on a bull can be bad for your health.

I was always told as a child that cows/bullocks/heffers were just curious. I kept this in mind when four youngsters broke through a wire fence and literally chased us over a quarter of a mile home, where they came to rest in the front garden  .

Off topic slightly Betty, but your swollocks must be stinking by now ^_^ Sorry, just felt the need.
