Agree. If you trust this LBS, then 'fraid you may just have to 'cough up and look big'. :whistle: This is a risk of buying anything second hand; you can never be absolutely sure of it's history.

I though he bought it new in Feb 2020, though its not clear whether current LBS its at is the supplying dealer or not. Despite being outside Shimano's 2 year warranty, i'd be pushing the place i bought it from to push shimano for a discounted replacement shifter

That's the thing though - I didn't buy it second hand; the bike was bought brand new in February 2020

UPDATE:

I phoned the Bianchi dealer where I bought the bike from and told them what the mechanic at my LBS found and he has said that the only time he has come across a master cylinder having to be replaced was if a bike had been in an accident; he said it is very unusual for it to have to be replaced. I'm going to take it to the Bianchi dealer where I bought it from or another Bianchi dealer for a second opinion.
