It is. In the five years since it was introduced it has become a great success with 138 million journeys made and 100-150,000 trips a day compared with c20,000 for the Boris Bikes. Since the introduction of Velib, cycling has grown by 55% in Paris. So if you are looking for failure you'll have to look elsewhere.
at what cost ? over 50% of them end up the Seine every year

It just goes to show that if you throw enough money at any given issue, you will eventually get the stats you want to state to others...

So you are glad to be ignorant?

I dont need to prove to myself I should wear a helmet or not to wear a helmet, if i'm ignorant on this point then so be it. shame you have to live with the burden of having to have evidence before you can form an observation or opinion of your own. Are you not therefore a follower?

My job involves me being able to back up my opinions with fact, otherwise I run the risk of making myself and others glow in the dark.

With all due respect we are not considering your job. Your job and need for research of evidence bears no reflection on whether people wear helmets or not

Uninformed opinions have no place in rational debate.

Feel free to ignore my opinions if you wish, i do not force them on you, nor have i offered any as far as i am aware on this debate.

I have however questioned others reasons and logic based on their offered evidence. Something that seems to hit a nerve. Its almost like your shouting "I AM RIGHT AND YOU MUST AGREE WITH ME." Shame you cannot consider other peoples views and opinions and respect their right.

If the technology moves forward to give parity with the motorcycle standards, then I will become 'pro compulsion'

You don't need the technology to move forward. You can buy helmets that have parity with the motorcycle standards. They are called motorcycle helmets. But there is nothing to stop you wearing one on a bike other than the ridicule of others. Still what's a bit of ridicule if it can stop your brains splattering all over the road?

Selective reading again Linf?

I'll take your silence on the subject of horse ownership and conditional use on the roads as an admission that you are out of your depth....FYI, I pay the bills on 1 1/2 of them, and we got the first one 10 years ago

Ah Ridicule - the root of all your objections

Mine would be that they are too heavy for now, obstruct breathing, and are not at all vented well enough to keep you cool at cycling speeds in the summer.

Take it however you like, you still have read selectively (and are factually incorrect, the law is not a blanket requirement)

Not only was this a success as a scheme, but the problems from this and other schemes were noted and used as a learning experience.

Early schemes were plagued by theft, but there were changes in design, changes in promotion and other methods used to improve security and prevent / discourage theft.

Application of these lessons meant that only 15 bikes were stolen from the London Scheme stolen

So how is the Paris experiment doing now for theft ?
