Bradley Wiggins calls for safer cycling laws and compulsory helmets

Have you ever worn a modern carbon fibre crash helmet ?

The motorbike lids I wore in the early 80's were very heavy and hateful fibreglass affairs.

A modern carbon fibre motorbike helmet is about four times the weight of a typical cycle helmet and costs several hundred pounds. Don't think there are many people going to be cycling in those when they become compulsory unless you can get your radical new unobtanium helmet to the market.

I think, but am not sure, its about tying Lynf up in knots with his own arguments and ignorance.

You have to 'think' because you have yet to achieve that goal,

You just choose to blank when given direct questions.

How long ago did you give up motorcycling and how many years did you reguarly ride for (and on what) ?

Don't tell him, Pike!

You first. You haven't answered my question on how you are going to design helmet with the weight and ventilation of a cycle helmet and protection of a motorcycle helmet (or for that matter the many other questions you have blanked on in this thread). Its a two way street you know not one where you can demand answers but refuse to answer.

Oh and I had to say "think" because I'm not sure I'm not dealing with a failed Turing Test here.

My Met cycle hat was knocking on the door of £45 IIRC, there are cycle hats out there at comparable prices to motorcycle lids - the cycling solution doesn't need to be all bells and whistles like my biker lid.

Carbon fibre off road lids can be bought for little over £100 now http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=69562&gclid=CKGooMfu5rECFUFT3godJnMAEA

Economy of scale will reduce this further if compulsion was there and they were properly engineered for long duration road use.

I'll take it that your relevant experience is a figment if you are unable to supply specifics....

My no-hat is free . A Buff™ will set you back about £12 for the genuine article, but I'm not planning to make them compulsory.

Here for rides.
Worn, not tried one on in a shop
Worn a Bell Daytona for several hours, over several days, including one stint at utterly illegal speeds on a track day.

Yes, lighter than, say, an old Griffin Clubman but not an alternative to a cycle helmet, and nothing that could pass, say, ACU Gold, ever could be imo.

One can only admire your optimism. Have you considered though that, all the time you are prepared to buy existing cycle helmets, there is no great pressure on manufacturers to make the ones you dream of. You should join the boycott to achieve your aims.

Alternatively, simply dream of something nicer than cycle helmets.

Have you ever seen a mountain biker ride riding uphill wearing one of those?

It weighs over a kilo. Does it come with instructions on how to strengthen your neck muscles, or do we make like the downhill boys and wear neck braces?

By how much has it been demonstrated that it exceed the relevant standards? Exceeding a drop test of 14mph on to a flat anvil or 11 mph on to a grapefruit anvil doesn't fill me with confidence.

"The T2 Carbon is t.h.e.'s new top-of-the-line carbon-fiber helmet. At just over 1,000 grams,....." and it still only meets the CE and CPSC standards. Not even the slightly more onerous Snell standards. So you have shown us you can make a cycle helmet that is heavy and meets the lowest cycle helmet standards. You haven't shown us anything about how you are going to get that weight down to be acceptable, the venting up to allow you to do more than go downhill in it and the protection up to the motorcycle standards you are calling for. Would you like to try again?

So, Linford. How pissed am I allowed to be when carrying small children home from the pub on a bicycle?

How old are you and how long have you been riding a bike?

(I'm not really interested, but it seems de rigueur to ask on this thread)
