I am still in school

I have about £900 to spend on a road bike and have my eyes on the boardman team alloy.

Does anyone have any experience with them?

Much appreciated.

I have one, its great. Good quality components and a compact chainset. Bear in mind its now discontinued, and only old stock is left. Had it 7 months and no problems at all. You will need pedals, and tyres are recommended to be changed for more puncture resistant ones. Also I never got on with the saddle and changed that too.

Had mine since February,no problems what so ever with it,still use the original tyres too with no punchures yet, touch wood. Will be dreading ride home now I just said that

Hello.

I was at school when I bought my first Road Bike. A Peugeot PX10LE full 531 race bike. I was fourteen.

How old are you?

Because I was 14, a Junior, the gearing was restricted to 52 x 14 ( 7.93 m development ). I COULD NOT fit a 13 sprocket or a 53 ring or I could not compete.

If you are thinking of entering Junior class races, check your gearing on the Boardman. If its a 50 big ring, you will need to throw out the 13, 12 and 11 sprockets. ;)

Before you go into Halfords and order your Boardman ( excellent bikes ), take a look at your Dad and his Brothers, and maybe your Mom and her brothers, if any, to get an idea of how you will grow.

When I bought my Peugeot, the sizing method then was Seattube L = 1/3 x height ( French fit ).

Since then, things have got simpler still. Stand over the bike and you should have about 40mm between the very top of the top tube ( right next to the head tube ) and your crotch WHEN YOU ARE FULLY GROWN.

My Pug is 57cm and I have a perfectly fitting 54cm SWorks. To stand over the Pug, I have to stand on the front portion of my shoes with plates and curved sole to put my heel 2" off the ground.

Nowt wrong with Boardman's bikes. They are race-ready, for adult classes ;)

No offense (I'm sure you're dead ringer for George Clooney) but your stats bring to mind Peter Crouch's response when asked what he would have been if he hadn't been a professional footballer: 'A virgin.'

Has anyone had any problems?

only minor problem with mine is that the spokes needed tightening up, apparently this is common with boardmans and haflords had been told to tighten all spokes. but i bought mine in the box so had to do it myself.

very comfy on mine and getting on well with the saddle.

its possible that your only problem will be halfords, some people get lucky with them and some have a real hard time of it.

i do love this bike

oh, good chance to post these again

I had this bike on stand by, as I wanted to check what people thought of it.

With good reviews I descided to go and fetch it, after they told me it was in stock 3 days ago.

I got into halfords and asked, only to find out that they knew nothing about it and therefore it wasn't in stock, and now they tell me they can't get one in!

Really annoyed!

That's the end of the boardman!

for £900 you have loads of choice - have a good look about and get plenty of good advice before buying - not all advice on here is good!

If you need to factor in cycling shoes and a few other accessories then you might want to keep £100 back and only spend £800 on the bike

that's a healthy budget for a school kid! make sure you buy a mega expensive D-lock if you plan to leave it anywhere as it'll be gone in no time.
