I have done that on both of my current road bikes. It makes a surprising difference. It not only raises the bars, but pulls them back a bit

This is a handy tool removes some of the guess work.

Ah - I saw that years ago but forgot where it was!

If you put the same figure in for spacers but then the opposite angle, say 17 degrees instead of -17 degrees, that tool shows what a big difference stem flipping can make.

What I would like is a much longer head tube so I could achieve a similar position with an unflipped stem and a smaller stack of spacers. My current bikes have 18 cm tubes and I have to flip. I would probably need more like 21 cm, which is probably hard to find on a standard 58 cm frame.

It might be easier for me to do some work to improve my back flexibility!

Ok, decided to go for it, applied for the C2W voucher today, went for 1k as its only £5 more per month than £900. Went to halfords and to get the £60 off you have to pay in full today!
So I said no, they told me they are likely to have a 10% off weekend soon so I'm going to wait for that

If anyone hears of the 10% off weekend please let me know

So, after all that, I've got a Diverge. Was recommended to me and after riding it, I have to agree. So much for shaving a budget

Thanks. Did 17 miles yesterday and my usual 13 commute this morning. Still not used to the gearing but still shave 5 minutes of my time! ^_^
