It took me 18 mins this morning instead of the usual 10-12. Almost blown to a standstill. Would have been pee'd off, but just kept telling myself that hills and headwinds are what get you fit.

Not a bad trip home. Wind had dropped a bit, still blowy but it only took 5 minutes longer than usual (50 instead of 45). I smiled at the traffic stuck going through town due to the A40 being shut (power cables down due to a fallen tree, A40 closed between the Witney junctions for 5 hours!).

I underestimated just how windy it was and got a surprise when I got hit by a particularly hard gust and the bike leapt sidewise a couple of feet. I didn't underestimate the wind on the rest of my commute

set off on the bike, got 1 mile in double my normal time, which over 17 miles meant I was going to be late by about 40 mins.
Turned back and got the car.

Tomorrow I am getting up even earlier and going by bike, I really missed going home on the bike, felt like I had cheated by taking the car

Indeed you did ......... cheat. Shandy! This is great training weather for climbing peaks if you live in the flatlands. Also good for sprinting interval training .

I was riding along flat out so thought I must at least be doing 17mph/18mph although it felt like 25mph. Switched the computer light on, 8mph!! ........... 8 f'kin mph  managed to get it up to 10 mph. Hard to tell in the dark with so much wind buffeting. Then a bit later going down a slight hill where I normally hit 28-30 mph, I thought I must have broken the 20 mph barrier, 22-23mph maybe. Computer light on again........ 14mph!!!!!!!! down hill into a head wind. **** this!

Coming back 28-30 mph pretty much all the way home, save for 22 on the slight up hill stretch for about 1.5-2 miles, turning a big gear pretty easily, just like Cancellara, but he doesn't ride with panniers . He's not strong enough.

If they're anything like the socks i wouldn't bother. Mine miraculously let water in and keep it there, while managing to keep the outside dry ! Brilliant.

you got em on inside out:laugh:

Well, I was all set for cycling in this morning. Extremely windy though, to the point where large immovable objects are taking off and my tree is quite litterally being blown in a 90 degree angle (horrible evergreen, could do with lopping down....). Think I'll jump in the shower and drive into work.

Mmm, bit windy, was going to take the car. However the council are digging up the road and I can't get the car out!...Bike it is then. Going to give myself 2 hours to get in!

Woo hoo! What a commute!! I was up early and didn't want breakfast (not sure what was wrong, I think I might be about to die, but never mind), so I grabbed some toast and shoved it in my panniers for work and off I went. Full-on tail wind, no traffic and the most spectacular sunrise I've ever seen, and at my desk by 7.30am. I'm not thinking about the full-on head wind and 'sailor's warning' weather the red sky is meant to predict for the way home...

1 hour 20 minutes to do 13 miles again today. Sweating like mad and being passed by cars with drivers wearing scarves and gloves! What's that all about ?

I used to chicken out when it was windy because my old hybrid used to catch wind like a sail and tended to lurch across the road. I made myself cycle today on my road bike, and it was easier going but still added 20 minutes onto my usual 50 minute journey. I had a headwind the whole way in, so hopefully should have a nice big breeze pushing me all the way home ;)
