Bike at home today. Taken train. But, train was 20 mins late. Could not go back, otherwise would have wasted time dressing down and up. And wasn't confident in this weather.

Don't want to tempt fate for later .... but .... when the train got into London and I took off into the wind for Charing Cross, it wasn't that hard?!?

I'd fiddled around with my saddle height last night after reading Sheldon Brown and I flew.... Going down Embankment I scalped seven or eight - though none were road bikes. The only one past me and my hybrid was a fakenger jumping some lights.

King of the Wind (my other half will agree with that)!

The wind is forecast to last through the weekend as well, 15-20 mph gusting to 40-50 in the south east.

I'm amazed you feel anything different from bladed spokes!! I shouldn't think there'd be much effect on even a trispoke wheel, surely?

p.s. I ride with a PlanetX carbon disc wheel all the time, though admittedly it's on a recumbent. Seems to get very little effect from sidewinds.

Yeh, I really feel these bladed spokes when it snaps around the front wheel, gave myself extra room this morning from the kerb.

The ruddy wind's died down - no tail wind home. Still raining ! Just had a cycling colleague phone up "You didn't ride in did you" - "Yes...."...

Got off lightly on the way in...moderate winds and no rain.

It'll be a different story on the way home...the forecast is for high winds and heavy rain.

I got caught like that last night. A fine afternoon for my ride in, and I was practically blown along by the tailwind, but as the night wore on it became apparent that I was in for a very unpleasant ride indeed. Sure enough, when midnight came and I set off home there was a gusty headwind and cold, horizontal rain. And it's uphill most of the way home.
Still, I have to say that once you're settled in and you're as wet as you're going to get, it's actually quite fun. But I think I'll go to work in the car tonight.

I almost chickened out but figured this is why I got the waterproofs. Puddles everywhere, motorists were pretty good really, left me plenty of room, although maybe they were just dodging the puddles themselves. Got called insane/nuts when I got into work, but I felt fine, if a bit damp.

Gloves and shoes were soaked despite overshoes, so am pondering Sealskinz riding gloves as I found some for £18.

The rain has stopped and I'll have a tailwind on the way home long as things stay the same, woot

If they're anything like the socks i wouldn't bother. Mine miraculously let water in and keep it there, while managing to keep the outside dry ! Brilliant.

It was a brutal pootle into work this morning. I was warm enough but i didn't half get soaked and thats the coldest weather we've had this side of Summer.

It didn't help that there was a lot of congestion on my route too, so a fair few smidsy pull-outs, and the decay leaf mulch is nows at mucus stage....

I decided on cowardice being the better part of valour and took the bus. The flat lands of East Anglia are not the best when riding in a heavy crosswind!
Today was fun, I've done 52 miles, got some people taking the pee pee when I was sprinting into a head wind at... 8mph! That said coming back up the B1368 I was riding at 25mph to 35mph between villages.
