Hi. We've just set up a new community bike refurbishment, sales and education coop in Derby. We have years of experience and a high level of training from being involved with a charity that closed its doors in December. You can find us at Ayup Bikes in Derby. As you'll see, we have a bit of work to do, but we are doing refurbs right now, and if you need service, I'm sure that we can come to some arrangement.

The Sue Ryder shops (?3 of, on the map) in Nottingham and surround probably don't meet the criteria.
They have shedloads of shops at which a bike can be donated, and a national system (including with HM Prisons) to refurb/recycle parts but no sign of what then happens to these bikes. Do they get sold? Where (from)?

Ayup Bikes exactly meets (what I think are) the criteria, for example. There needs to be a physical place with an address (imho) where receipt, repair, refurb and resale takes place and the thrust must be for charitable purposes.

Great stuff Malc. I'm sure @All uphill will get you on the list. I don't think you've a physical workshop yet (?) but as soon as you do I'll put you on the map.

The Sue Ryder shops I added are the ones that they list as places you can donate bikes.

I agree that the ideal is the sort of thing that Ayup Bikes (and Recyke y'Bike where I used to volunteer). However, I'm passionate about recycling and I'd much rather a bike was passed on to someone else rather than mouldering in the back of someone's shed. So Sue Ryder meets my criteria on that basis. I see the map (and the list) as a tool that people can use to find locations near them and can then do a bit of research themselves to decide if it's somewhere they want to use.

However, if I'm outvoted I'm happy to take pins off.
Alternatively we could try categorising the pins - "donations only", "donations & sales", "donations, servicing & sales", "volunteering" It's possible to make the pins different colours depending on the category.

Nice work there. Do you or anyone else know though how (when on mobile) to have the map open in the app rather than a browser window?
No idea but if someone figures it out & I need to amend the map just let me know.

Also I think this was missed:
You're right. It should be on there now

Cheers. I've used that one in Leeds a couple of times and apart from not opening until 1200 its great.

According to their website yes, they do although in several years of doing the same in Derby, we have not really come across them. As LifeCycle (the now ex-charity.in Derby) took donations, worked with prisons, sold bikes and provided service and education, we should have seen more of them.

They do turn over a lot of bikes, but I guess more to the Eaat of Derby where they are based.

Tretops as a charity get a huge following.
