Not been on Bike Radar but I've read it was very insular and anti anyone new? I've read tales of some being hounded out. Is this true?

Why was it closed?

I read someone posted in a forum there and immediate response from a regular was "who the feck are you". Maybe joking etc, dunno but i'd heard a few left.

Get similar stories about some cycling clubs, being made to feel unwelcome etc.

We've all been hounded out now ..... by its closure!
But no, it wasn't anti new members, unless they were trolls.

To be fair, towards the end I think one needed a certain resilience to find participation rewarding, but when I joined (in 2010) and the active membership was wider, I found it very helpful. I suspect as it dwindled, the active bits got a little more intimidating if you didn't know all the characters, and debate could be quite 'robust'.

It might not have felt unwelcoming to those on the inside, but I’d imagine newcomers were put off by insider jokes and there was often scorn towards newbie questions/terminology. Many just made a single post and left.
There must have been a reason for its demise.

The Online Safety Act killed it

That was a response to a regular poster who had been absent for a while. Very much tongue in cheek.

That response was usually reseved for regulars who had disappeared for a while. As far as I could see there wasn't a bad attitude towards newcomers unless they were trolling, although it had become a bit of a small club by the end.

As mentioned above, the online safety act killed it off.

It was like a bluebottle spinning around with its legs in the air until swatted with a rolled up newspaper.

Or maybe we need some graphs to explain it fully.
