There isn't a band from whom I like everything, but dexys, the jam, the style council, the doors, the clash, small faces, faces, gil scott heron, specials, madness, slim gaillard, sly & family stone, stray cats, nina simone come pretty close!

Idiot, what from Dexys don't you like ffs?

Not into 'best bands', but I think the most underrated band ever is The Kinks, and ray davies obviously the most undersung songwriter ever.

That's obviously the way he likes playing it, but in the future they will be up their with the best.

As far as I'm concerned, The Kinks/Ray Davies already are.

Pink Floyd and The Corrs??? A-ha-ha haaaaa... obviously I'm more on FM's wavelength, on live performance I could mention Jane's Addiction, who were just blindingly good even though I thought their music was mediocre at best for a bunch of indulgent LA junkies.

Errr, Nusrat Fatah Ali Khan was just superior in every sense, but so was James Taylor the one time I saw him perform. Weird, innit?

On recordings, The Clash, Doors, an Irish bunch named Whipping Boy (their album in about 1993 was scary good), Sam Cooke (not really a band, per se), Led Zeppelin (in a class of their own, really), Nina Hagen band, Midnight Oil (patchy and preachy but pure genius), Sloan (3 minute pop music perfection), and Smithereens ('Behind The Wall Of Sleep' = 2'30 pop perfection)...........

oh. That's the guy who likes Marillion too, and thought JPJ did a good production job on Mission albums...

An impossible question but if I had to choose one it would be The Animals if only for their version of Boom Boom.

But mention has to be made of (in no particular order):

The Yardbirds
Eddie and the Hot Rods
The Count Bishops
The Only Ones
Dr Feelgood
The Doors
and the Blueprint/Tattoo era version of Rory Gallagher's band.

Seriously Chuffy - listen to Accelerate. Right now. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
I'll keep my eyes peeled for it...

In fact, if you PM me your address I will buy the album right now tonight and have Amazon post it to you!

(I still feel a little guilty that my post on your Captain Beefheart thread might - in some weird way - have helped to convince you to buy Trout Mask Replica. I feel the need to apologise!)
No need, but thanks for the offer. If it makes you feel better I didn't buy Trout Mask Replica so you don't owe me anything. ;)

The Clash (obviuously) but loads of otther great suggestions up there!

Another vote (Just for the acknowledgement) for Rocket from the Crypt. Superb live band - even though they all struggled to fit on the stage!
