See? What if it had been a heron or an albatross?

For those who have never had the satisfaction I feel sorry for you.......

but the sound of a large insect bouncing off the fairing has a distinctive and very satisfying sound!

PS I know what the sound of a four year old bouncing off the fairing sounds like, and I suspect a small heron would sound similar

I once experienced the sound - and the sting - of a wasp stuck in the helmet vent. Fortunately it was in the warmup for my race not in the race itself, or it would have been quite dangerous

Do people who don't wear helmets really want to take the risk of getting their head cracked open for what is a very slight inconvenience and £30? Even if you think they do nothing (and I have to admit I think their value is overstated) its really not a great cost but the potential benefit is very high.

Snoring is not only annoying to anyone else in the same room as the snorer, it can be dangerous. It can be symptomatic of sleep apnoea, a dangerous condition suffered by, among others, Billy Connoly. Snorers have a higher risk of suffering heart attacks than non snorers. And more .......

So why is this relevant to a forum thread about helmets?

its obvious

There seem to have been more than usual in the last week or two, and reviving one from last year really is the pits!

I bought my first (only) helmet circa 1996 to set an example to our children. It is very dated now. Probably also useless after many drops onto stone floors.

I wore it rarely until about a year ago when I got caught in AWFUL weather.

Roads like sheet ice and holes hidden in every puddle. Close passes aplenty and abject terror.

I simply got scared and was beset by supestition. Out went the casquette I'd always worn.

Now I wear a helmet often. I really wish I didn't, but I've become superstitious and scared in middle age.

(I've only crashed twice since this change of heart, both times sans casque.)

When I wear it I miss being able to scratch my noggin.

Weirdly, I almost always get terrible road rash when I crash, but I still wear lycra with no armour or padding.

TdF looked better before helmets, but I just feel safer sometimes with a helmet on. Not always, but sometimes.

I'd prefer my children to wear one, but I am not their master. 1 does always. 2 do sometimes...

Potential benefit to share holders of helmet manufacturers ?

Its because schools out and the kids have nothing better to do.

But look on the bright side. It could have been a 15,000 post thread on telling lies about the poster above that has been going strong continuously for two years.

By the way does anyone else have the same impression as me that virtually all the helmet threads are started by posts in favour of helmets?
