Had a rest day in Bruges. Not a fan of the half maan brewery, too touristy. Found a quaint little bar in a side street. Brugs beertje , tho why chill stouts and porters is beyond me.?
Anyway enjoying the time off the bike. 375 mile to ride to finish.

A pint of Affligem while reading a book in Paris. Delicious. I know "when in Rome" but the only French draught they had was 1664. Belgian it is then!

Had a glass of that in a local (Bristol) pub the other day; The Portculis who specialise in Belgian beers. Rather nice, and I might have to buy the appealing glass to go with my already quite extensive collection

Normandy ale? Why not since i,m not that far. Le Treport. Backpaker brewery coffee and vanilla stout 6.5%> just what i needed after 78 glorious miles in the sun. Makes a change. 200 odd mile from cherbourg.

I bought this box of beers in Lidl a couple of weeks ago. They’re all very nice but boy are they strong!

Six bottles (33cl) for just over £10 isn’t bad. I was in again yesterday doing some shopping and they were back in, so I got another box. 😵‍💫

I always get a box of those when they're in, good cycling watching beer! I'm puzzled though, by the 'second fermentation in the bottle' thing, as there's never any yeast residue in the bottles, which I'd expect from bottle conditioned beers. So no chance of cultivating any of their yeast for home brew!

The yeast they use for bottle conditioning is a wine yeast so likely pretty useless for primary fermentation even if you could culture it. I'd guess they filter out their ale yeast prior to bottling and then add a v small amount of the wine yeast and maybe even some simple sugar.

In any event, really good yeast strains are pretty cheap.
