Nothing justifies threats and physical abuse or violence but the cyclist also needs to learn some patience - there was no need for his reaction to his path being blocked ahead when he reached the back of the queue of cars coupled with the car simply reverse parking - he should have calmly waited instead of all his muttering and head shaking.
In what relation does this have with what the van driver did? In the incident with the driver, the cyclist didnt show any impatience and would have done what any of us would have in that situation.

The cyclist made a meal of under cutting the white van, then pulled out sharply in front of the van to avoid hitting the reversing car while the van was patiently waiting for the car to reverse... as I said nothing justifies violence. There are two sides to every story.... don't get upset, it's just an observation. If you are as impatient in traffic then you may also find yourself getting into slanging matches with people.

The traffic was backed up so it was fine for the cyclist to cut in if he's turning left. Why should we have to wait patiently in queues created by cars?

What would other people have done in a situation like this? Genuinely curious.

I would have stupidly stood my ground rather than try cycle away. But then again, im stupid. Lol

All it needed was for the bloke to grab some heavy tools from his van and it'd have been a lot worse

Some people just needed putting down at birth, this is a perfect example of such a person.

Me too, not because I am some sort of hardman but "getting away" on a bike is a tough ask and I would rather deal with the "human" than that human in 2 tons of car/van frothing at the mouth.

I would also always try and get off my bike before they got close enough to clump me, when similar situations have happened to me in a car and I have tried to ignore it, it nearly always keeps escalating, when my temper bursts they have always backed down or run off. Thank god. I think by ignoring and or running you fuel the bullies ego to overflow.

If the OP is content with outcome no problem, but gobsmacked it never went further.

It wouldn't actually be futile in this situation, there's a police station literally 50 metres down the road from where this happened. I suspect that's where he was trying to get to when he did the U-turn. I'm surprised the stubby man managed to catch up to him on foot, though.

Id of hoped that a passer by wouldve help. But not even the bus driver got out to help. As a passer by id of been tempted to remove the keys from his van and walk off. That'd teach him :P

Like others, I'm amazed. If the points system allows that without any real sanction then the points system is an ass. I'd be interested to hear what our two friendly neighbourhood cops think of it.
