Really? I’m happy to have chats with young ladies (or, indeed, older ones) on various topics. They are usually happy to talk to me, but I’m not sure if it is a compliment or not :-)
Had occasion to compliment a lady on her outfit just the other day, she was proper made up. We had a little nit-nat on the topic of fashion and work and went our separate ways.

I'll talk to anyone if the situation arises but the situation never arises where I ask people their views on having doors opened for them.
Young women are quite happy to chat to old men because they know they are no threat, and if they are the women can outrun them.

Oh, don't start me on politicians who remove their ties in pursuit of the "everyman" look. Scruffy sods. Even worse, some are seen with their hands in their suit trouser pockets! Mark my words, they'll be wearing brown shoes next.

I have a pair of black shoes. They are about 30 years old and come out only for funerals to match the black tie.
I find i get more, uninitiated, recognition from female cyclists than males. It's either because I'm HAF or they've recognised me from Crimewatch.
I'm too old to dislike anyone for what they wear or don't wear. I just ride my bike and smile as i do.
I ride a 105 groupset bike wearing whatever I feel like wearing.
I know people who wear lycra, some of them are sound and some are not. Much like people in general.
