Anyone Got a "SSC P7-C 3-Mode 900-Lumen" From Ebay ?

we want pics etc and honest opinionsas there is a few of us waiting in the wings to purchase !
They are f***ing bright, not 900 lumens but maybe nearer 400/500 according to tests on other websites. For the price they are good value for money and seem to have good build quality.
The only negative is the batteries, the recharging everyday is slowly starting to reduce there burn times, still enough but I can see I will need to buy a new one sooner rather than later.

You can't really test it, as lumen isn't the best for testing.
We go on manufacturer rating and BIN codes etc.
400/500 is very underestimating it, we're talking more like 700+
That battery problem is all too common, at least its only £20 for a new battery pack - unlike some companies. If you're good enough you could just buy 4x 18650 cells and replace them yourself (these are also common in laptop batteries so good way to recondition your laptop too). Granted soldering with lithium should be treated with care and a bit of skill.
Other (big name) companies also over estimate, but usually they buy in the best BINs so get nearer the LED manufacturers top spec.
the appeal is the somewhat control ie high/low setting. My current cateye triple shot set is on or off, now these were modded with some SSC leds to boost lumen output to 400 approx, but you can never have enough light

My Exposure Enduro Maxx is rated at 720. (Apparently, according to various test this is a rather optamistic rating. )
When the SSC is fully charged and first switched on it completely swamps the Enduro, it is clearly miles brighter. Therefore it's 900lumen rating, although somewhat optamisic, is seemingly comparible to other manufactures light output ratings.
Unfortunatly the SSC doesn't stay super bright. As the battery drains the light starts to dim.
After an hour or so there's no longer that much difference between the two lights.

That's not so much a battery issue but more heat around the led. It doesn't disapeate heat amazingly well and thus the led gets slightly dimmer as you use it.
I do not mind a little soldering, just not with lithium anywhere nearby, so will just buy a new battery.

I'm sure someone will take the old dead battery guts off your hands then...
Advantage of choosing your own cells is you can pick and choose your battery.
The drop off depends on the cells inside, you can get some 3000Mah ones which drop off sooner but last longer than 2600mah units...

If you look most keep a constant level until they drop off - thus the light shouldn't dim so much.
Is your unit getting very hot on the outside? If that's the case then it's working well
the more you move (speed) the better cooling there is. This is where I suggested to you about replacing the thermal paste with decent stuff if you have it (Artic Silver and the like).If they were testing it inside without any kind of airflow then it's not fully indicative of using on the road. If I was going slowly I wouldn't use the High setting anyway.

Bearing in mind 1.5 hours runtime at full power isnt long, and bearing in mind that LEDs dont like low battery voltages as they run down, I suppose it is an option (if its affordable) to buy a spare battery. They are really quite light and compact, just make sure you dont get a 15V (4x 16850) cellpack.
Co-incidentally, reading other posts, i have made my own cellpack from a stripped laptop battery...its worked quite successfully, although i now gather its a bit dodgy, not just from the soldering point of view, but from a charging point as well. Still, mine has worked well, perhaps my charger has inbuilt protection...just never figured it out for sure.

There is a regulator in there to control the voltage/current to the LED so no "problems" there.
1.5hrs is very pestimistic, and the light output doesn't drop all that gradually - granted it does depend on the cells inside.
Spare battery = $30 (£20) or as you have done, replace the cells (new, x4 <$20 a set).
Charger has "protection" but cannot balance induvidual cells as it only has 2 wires to the battery. I am not fully sure on what the PCB does inside and how well it balances it, so if you replaced your old cells you shouldn't have a problem (well, the same as the original). If your laptop battery is old, your runtimes won't be great for obvious reasons.
If you really want to build your own from scratch - use a 4x 18650 holder (2s2p layout turboferret etc not selling any more though - could even use 2s4p for double run times) and charge the batteries separate.
