One of the blokes I ride with has one. Its brighter than my exposure enduro. Its top notch for the money.

He's got problems with the clamp/band allowing the light rotate upwards when he hits a rough section of road.

He only gets 1.5/2hrs run time before it starts to dim but using the lower settings you can probably get it to last for twice as long

Sorry I've not got one of those, but my mate has, and the beam pictures shown seem pretty accurate. I have two SSC P7 900 lumen torches and I can confirm they are incredibly bright, you will have no bother on dark canal paths I got mine from http://www.dealextreme.com ( I now have half a dozen torches from them all similar ) and both me and the better half have them strapped to our bikes

Looks like a lot more side spill from the Magicshine than the Hope, but a comparable output loking at the spot size/colour. What's the batery life/ergonomics/useability like?

A lot of of the information that I have seen on ebay on the magicshine is a load of rubbish. The photos that I have seen on there are exaggerated, adjust the shutter speed and aperture and you can show whatever you like.

I think the photos posted by Gaz give a true representation.

I use a magicshine as a helmet light and a MaxxD on the handlebars (I have 10 miles of unlit country lanes).
On a normal ride I will have cars dipping their headlights before they round the bend, but I have spend a lot of time adjusting my lights so that they don't dazzle (unless I want them to!).
I also carry a small flashing light as I find that this helps with drivers judging my speed at junctions.

The magicshine charger comes with an American plug so you will need an adapter. While the charger is rated for 230V use I have heard stories of overheating when used at 230V. I use a transformer adapter to run the charger at 110V and I have never had a problem.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I am trying to convince Mrs CK that i need a better light for x mas.

After looking at the magic shine i am torn between one and a p7 torch that i can pick up for around £20 + the cost of a charger.

I am currently waiting on a 230 lumen torch that will go along side the 2 lights that i run currently of around 150 lumens each .

Downside with the torch...

Lower capacity (single 18650).
Battery can rattle around and even change modes etc/turn off.
More likely to rotate around the bars.

This light has been around for ages so there is a huge amount of info online about it...

mtbr and candlepowerforums are very good resources for these topics - they also use standard camera settings so you can compare against others

I find dimming is usually due to the threads being dirty inside the caps etc.

My MTE P7 has a spring on both sides on the battery which is a problem, so I use small magnets to make the battery "bigger".
