A friend at work used to write letters like this to companies when he was younger. Still an immature thing to do IMHO. He did get a couple of freebies from the likes of Cadbury and Heinz, and the makers of a soy sauce which he said always spurted out when he opened it and stained his cats fur

Someone I used to know wrote letters to match manufacturers saying that a head had flown of one of their matches and damaged his shirt. The first time he got a cheque and a letter of apology. He then got several sarcastic letters back saying that he must have been extremely unlucky. All the brands of matches were manufactured by the same manufacturer and all the complaints went to the same complaints department!
