Derek Bentley was convicted of murder of a policeman and hanged on the basis of the phrase “let him have it”
He didnt even fire the shot which killed the policeman. The case revolved around whether by saying “let him have it” he meant either give him the gun or shoot him.
he was as eventually posthumously pardoned.

It is extraordinary that a jury convicted in the face of such ambiguity, knowing that by doing so, they were definitely sending a man (a clearly young and inadequate man at that) to his death.
On a lighter note, if in a related vein, there's that one about the importance of capitals: "I helped my uncle Jack off a horse."
