I'd have to convert that to mph for that to mean anything, and I don't compare my speed with the professionals.

It's not a matter of comparisons but understanding. Taking that 45km/h travelling speed as an example, after descending a long hill a couple of weeks back I hit the long, straight, flat road with plenty of momentum. On the flat I was able to look down at my speedo and see that I was travelling at 45km/h (for a short while) which gave me an understanding of the speeds the professionals are riding at whilst having a chat and eating.

Yes your right its understanding, if I looked at my cycle computer and it said 45kph it would mean nothing, I wouldn't understand it. If I looked at my cycle computer and it said 28mph I would understand that, that would give a good understanding of how fast I was travelling. I rarely watch cycle racing, if I do the metric speeds that are given out are meaningless, I'd have to convert them to mph to understand them.

You must really suffer when you go into a supermarket and milk is only available in 1, 2 or 4 litres.
