Take it as a learning curve... 22 kph is very slow for a road bike.. 'recently serviced' means you are quite a new comer to cycling.. bikes dont actually need to be serviced, just fettled and maintained and components added as and when... you'll learn over the years.. oh.. get fitter to ride faster when out there in 'all the gear' but 'no idea' .

22 kph is 13.6 mph. That's a decent average.

I had a similar experience once, except that the pensioner who overtook me didn't have a battery to power his bike. :-(
Oooo, I had one of them chase me around the lochs of Inveraey. They're a bloody menace!!!

I remember, some years ago, I was somewhere near Chesterton windmill one summers Sunday morning and I was overtaken by a restored vintage three speed, rider sat upright, no foot retention and gleaming paintwork. Try as I might I couldn't catch him, I was a fair bit quicker in those days than I am now and I couldn't get near him.:blush:

Which word out of kilometres per hour isn't in English?

A lot of us were brought up on the English imperial measurement system, mph, pounds and ounces, not the continental metric measurement system, kph, grams and kilograms, metric measurements don't mean a lot to us.

I watch quite a bit of cycling on the telly and it's nice to use the same measurement system as the professionals. Like when they mention that the average race speed of the peloton is 45km/h and I check my last ride to see mine was 25km/h

I'd have to convert that to mph for that to mean anything, and I don't compare my speed with the professionals.

Do you convert money back to Pounds, Shillings and Pence?

Occasionally, not very often, sometimes if I want to compare prices today to prices in the past. But then thats a whole new can of worms.

I was out riding with a couple of mates, one races on the track the other a pretty good tester, we were averaging about 35 kmh on a 100 km ride, so not hanging around. We caught an old guy well into his sixties out on the road. Small chap, thin as a rake. We couldn't drop him he just stuck with us. Turned out he was a former pro who had a national tour win in his palmares he still rides in LVRC and TLI vets races.
Age doesn't slow people that much if they were quick back in the day or they have a motor attached to the bike.
