FFS @Ming the Merciless. I thought we were all friends

Greetings, fellow Earthlings! I am Ming the Merciless and I come to bring about a reign of justice and order. We must accept accountability for our actions and be willing to face the consequences of our choices. The path to a better future is not one of complacency and fear, but courage and strength. Those who do not work towards this unified vision will be dealt with accordingly. Thank you.

Much ado about nothing. I suspect these things have been floating by for most of the last century, picked up on radar and never made it to the media. Radio sonde weather balloons are pretty old tech, if that is what they are. Every nation that can, has been gathering information about each other much more reliably and predictably by satellite for decades. It's just a convenient distraction, serving some political end. Ironic that it has taken the use of some of the most advanced fighter jets firing missiles costing possibly hundreds of thousands each to bring down these flimsy, erratically wind borne gasbags. A bit of a sledgehammer/nut interface situation?

U.S. military commander says he can't rule out aliens. These are the people responsible for our safety, in charge of some of the world's most powerful weapons? Perhaps he thinks it's as well to keep an open view...perhaps better to make sure that he's still taking his tablets.

Clearly the big balloon was Chinese, but when a military commandeer says re the recent smaller objects

??

I'm very much of the view that they are Chinese spying devices....
When I read the news report, I did wonder if it was a bit tongue in cheek by the military officer. One of the republicans on the defence committee is Marjorie Taylor Green who is a conspiracy theorist. If reports are to be believed, she lost the plot a little when she and her fellow committee members were briefed about the shooting down of the Chinese weather balloon

'wind borne gasbags' ...

Thought we were only allowed to mention them in NCAP...

one of the short comings of the modern jet fighter is they no longer have a pilot operated machine gun in front of the open cockpit. Hi tech missiles have their downsides, like blowing he object to smitherines so its very hard to tell what it was in the first place..
