Yes. Why wouldn't you?

It's cheaper, and more effective for everyone involved. Less risk of catching summat as well. :P
Mrs stephec once had her card cloned, she only found out when the bank rang to inform her.

Apparently the villain's trick is to use it for a few small purchases to see if it sneaks under the radar, then go for the big one, it was her habit of not using the card for small purchases that alerted them.

She used to work in a bank and will still use a cash machine regularly to take £50 a time for paying for stuff in shops rather than use a card.

All the people she still knows from the bank are the same, they all have an aversion to contactless payment.

There is IME a limit on the number of contactless transactions possible without entering a PIN

I spent years working in a bank and never have cash, I have a few pound coins in a Kangaroo scrotum in the garage (yes you read it correctly)
I use contactless all the time even for small purchases less than £1.

The banks tried to get rid of cheques years ago because of fraud, (IRC Govt stopped it) I had a cheque passed through my team that was altered from £23 to £200,000. the money went straight to japan and was never seen again!

That is true, however staff were never told and neither were the public, I have never come across a case where it has happened, the £30 limit is set as this is an acceptable loss, I have however come across a card that was cloned when a customer visited the states, they made multiple copies and hit 20/30 ATM's in Manhattan at the same time 10 days after they had returned home, bank loss, customer inconvenienced (very)

I had my card cloned about 10/12 years ago when taking out cash at an ATM.

As I mentioned up thread these days I mostly use my phone for payments of all kinds. I have to unlock it to pay for anything so there's an added security feature over contactless payment by card.

I want to upgrade my Garmin watch to one with contactless but I can't really justify the expense just yet.

I think it can only be used with Santander in the uk so far though.

It happened to me in my local Lidl a few months ago! The till computer rejected my contactless payment several times. I had checked my current account balance before going out and knew that there was enough money in there to pay the bill. I got a bit flustered but the man on the checkout told me that it happens every so many contactless payments. Sure enough, the payment went through first time using chip and PIN.

Thanks for that. It didn't occur to me there would be any restrictions.

The garmin website list 59 banks in Norway that accept Garmin Pay. 12 in the UK of which I've only heard of Santander.

Re paying in pubs:

Up to about 10 years ago I was a frequent and valuable customer of the Oslo nightlife. It was often the done thing, if you were staying for a few, to put your card behind the bar in exchange for a numbered token which you would show when ordering drinks. Saves a lot of time in a crowded bar. When it came to settling up I would often be surprised by how much I'd spent. Some quick mental arithmetic and I'd realise, yes, it's about right. One night though, when leaving, I was asked for £100 plus! I said (shouted over the music and chatting) that the bill is too much. I've only bought 4/5 beers and a couple for the gf. Maybe 40 quid tops. The bartender said there's probably some mistake then and charged me £40. I told my gf later and she said the first bill was more like it as she'd had 4/5 beers and I'd had more like 10.

I dont what the point to this is.

As I hardly ever use my cards for cashless payment I'm not too worried about it being copied or losing them as i don't carry them much. One advantage of App based bank is every time I do anything with my account it show's on my phone and watch Inc location and time. With one tap I can just lock down the card.
It only let's you use it 100 times before you have to use your pin. I can even turn the magnetic strip on and off. Apple pay well no way anyone going to miss use that. Without some detailed hard work and even then it will take some time. If they ever did one click and it's came over. Again any card use soon show's up on the phone and or watch so soon know about it.

I have used cash on perhaps 4-5 occasions since i started using ApplePay. Lifting the £30 limit on Apple/Google payments means I rarely take my cards/wallet out with me now.

Our 18k kitchen and 14k car was paid for ‘contactless’ with my Apple watch.

Was going to ask if there is an upper limit..........take it there isn’t then?
