Very accurate vandals. But, yes, that did cross my mind. Would you agree that missing splines shouldn't be an issue though?Random smashing which leaves four groups of four splines at equidistant points around the circumference?

Doesn't physically fit.gaps mean shimano tool is out by about 1/2 splineAgree with @Citius that must have been manufactured that way. But doesn't this just mean that the Shimano 20 spline tool will only bear on 16 splines/slots in the BB rather than the full 20 splines or is the OD different and it physically will not 'go in'?
Edit: (as three cross posts): Is the BB 'plastic @wisdom ?

Just as a point of interest. This is the original bb as fitted at manufacture.
Good result there. Sorry if it seemed I was questioning your original supposition, but this is the internet after all.Tapered splined socket fitted to an air impact gun removed one side.Hacksaw and chisel removed the other side.Threads recut and shimano bottom bracket fitted all for £20.well worth the money.Spent some more money on new cables and bits as well.Good service from lbs use them or lose them is my theory.
