Assuming they are, as expected, finishing one stage in Cardiff, and it is on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, I think I will be taking a day off to go and watch it somewhere on that day's route. If it is any of Sat - Tue I won't need a day off, but will still be watching.

Race starts on a Saturday usually for max TV coverage. So Edinburgh on Saturday, Leeds on Sunday, and my son will break out in a nasty rash on Monday morning, which will magically disappear by 11:00, but safer to keep him off school anyway.

Hello all, first post in this new place

Great podcast yesterday with Prudhomme

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m00291tm?partner=uk.co.bbc&origin=share-mobile

Two interesting points from yesterday's press ...

In Scotcast Paul Bush of Event Scotland quotes a stat that 80% of UK population will be within a 1hr drive of the route.

This was when discussing the men's tour. But I am assuming he meant TdF men & Femmes.

Also John Swinney on STV stated BOTH M&F starting in Edinburgh....🧐 I however doubt it.

After speaking with folk who are clued up, mu Guesses...

Stage 1 Edinburgh to Carlisle via Drumlanrig (birthplace of the bicycle)

Transfer down M6 to Gt Manchester for stage 2 with finish on The Gt Orme Llandudno.

Stage 3 through the heart of the Welsh Mountains with finish in Cardiff. . . Hellish transfer via Tunnel.

Femmes

Stage 1 Leeds & Yorkshire Dales as per 2014

Stage 2 Birmingham, Stratford Upon Avon, Oxford

Stage 3 Central London

Tell me your thoughts?

TDF stage went through Southampton around '94, but at the time, I didn't give a monkeys.

Did they ride up any of the relatively iconic climbs in Hampshire, albeit before Strava existed?

I bet they won't, but I'd love to see them race over the ~6.9 mile Road To Hell climb out of Denbigh https://www.strava.com/segments/6671093 and smash one of my last segment KOMs (it wasn't a climb and had a killer tailwind on the day) before long covid to smithereens.

Also... Most likely stage 1 will be in a Friday.

There won't be enough policing in Scotland for a Saturday stage as the traditional first Saturday in July orange walk takes over Glasgow.

I remember watching them come up the 1 way system in Basingstoke as I was at IX form at the time. Not sure I'd call that an Iconic climb though

Some grand tours recently have had a Friday start, then a long transfer rest day on the Monday.

Friday start will mean Cardiff on Sunday, Saturday start will mean Monday.

My expectation is that it will be a Friday start like Copenhagen was. My vague recollection from when this idea was first kicked around was that the vehicles would get on a Ferry in South Wales and go to Brittany.

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
Leeds would be good for me, but the TDF Femmes may be from Leeds.

Edinburgh to Durham-ish, Leeds-Stoke area then Welsh Marches to Cardiff? Those wouldn't mean big transfers.

Looking forward to this, I assume the Welsh stage will have either the star, finish or both in Cardiff but hopefully it takes in a few of the classic South Wales climbs. It should really have the start or finish in Abergavenny as that’s the home of Welsh cycling.

Crit stage at Pembrey
