I'm thinking of using the Passover break for C2C from Severn to the Wash, and then maybe crossing the Alps on foot (hut2hut) with my son (or possibly both sons, if the younger is willing) in the summer.

Probably Holland to Denmark. Did Denmark to Holland (1,000 miles) several years ago. This time with the wind at our backs hopefully.

I'm yet again thinking of European R1 route. I keep reflecting but then look at campsite opportunities in Poland and start wondering about practicalities (as there don't seem that many), then start thinking about the weather (don't like cycling & camping in rain) and end-up starting in France.

You make it sound like a chore. La belle France is arguably the best cycle touring nation in Europe, if not the world.

Early stages of planning a ride from home via Harwich/ Hook to Maastricht and then the Vennbahn ( a cycle path on an old railway line that is Belgian territory within Germany in places) all via some national parks for a spot of birding. Then bimbling back through Belgium and south NL. Will probably go in late April/ early May next year as this years early April NL trip was a little chilly, and there should be a few more summer migrants turning up by then too.
Big Vennbahn tips: Hotel Lindenhof in Weywertz did a good cycling dinner B&B&picnic package. We also ate well at Aachener Brauhaus, kaffeefee-roetgen.de, Küchelscheid Railbike Waffelhaus and Zur Alten Mühle in Sankt-Vith, but the timings may not work for your ride. I also suggest the Heinenoordtunnel (the cycling one) and Breda if they work for your route.

I should have clarified (or provided more info) and said "...and end-up starting in France yet again (for the nth time)". I nearly always seem to start northern France and wander from there. Seem to be ending up re-visiting campsites, etc. and I'm looking for inspiration to head somewhere different.

That said, Netherlands is also far too familiar.

Currently planning a few first dips into the touring/packing. Some easy ones to begin with near home, with the ultimate goal being to ride from home in Hants to the in-laws in Cornwall.

Not made my mind up if I'll usw the gravel wheels or road ones for that. Gravel would probably mean an extra day in the saddle, but ultimately more comfortable. Will have to see.

I have this grand idea of a ride 'around the block&, not very adventurous you say, but the idea is ride from home to Dover up from Dunkerque ,through Belgium , into Netherlands , to HvH ,then to Harwich ,back home To Southend,
Was rather hoping the Tilbury / Gravesend ferry is reinstated , which means otherwise a crossing via the Dartford or Woolwich, neither an inviting proposition.
Or get the Train to London, another sort of 'no ,no'
The big one for 2025 is the SemFed week at Orleans, would like to ride that on the recumbent, crossing the water at Newhaven

Carbon fibre... LMAO!!!
I have a plan of sorts to ride to my dad's. It's about 110 miles there and mostly flat till I hit Wales then it's hilly as hell.
The bikes ebattery is my concern as it's getting old and it's range is falling slowly.
Another option would be to just remove all the econversion crap and ride unpowered but I barely have the energy to walk the dog these days.
My biggest hurdle atm is universal credit leaving me f all to even live on let alone holidays. Grrr.

What away days multi day trips are you planning for next year? As I'm retiring I have lots of ideas, all UK based. I will get settled in the boat first though before venturing far and wide.

Boat is code for a black hole, for money, effort and sometimes enthusiasm. But builds amazing memories for those determined few who persevere.

Ask me how I know.
