I've had a conversation with a 16 yr old lad this week who *thinks* he may be a daddy soon.

Him: 'I finished with er ages agoo but she's up the stick maybe'.

Me: 'Well, did you use something?'

Him: 'What like?'

Me: 'Well, you know, a condom or was she on the pill?'

Him: 'Dunno'

Me: 'What?'

Him: 'I dunno if she was on sommat or nuttin'.

Me: 'So what you going to do if it is yours?'

Him: 'Dunno, it's her problem ay it?. I'm too young to be a father ay I?'.

Me: 'Did you not think of this before doing the deed?.

Him: 'No, I just did er, ay it'.

End of. This is England and the rest of the UK.....

To be fair, this has nothing to do with the case of the 13 year old father, who has at least (so far) stuck by the mother of his child and elected to act as a father.
He's biologically old enough to reproduce, it's only societal reasons that prevent him from doing so and lead to all this Daily Wail - style outrage. It may be that he makes an excellent father.

I'd be very surprised if the they are still together in a year's time. The boy seems to be pretty clueless about the present never mind the future. There does not appear to be much of an emotional bond between the parents of the baby. There are allegations that the boy might not even be the father. The whole thing is a mess.

Sadly under-age sex and parenthood is not a rarity and I personally know of some unholy alliances that have produced offspring and transient family units that are destined to be a drain upon the welfare state for the foreseeable future. I have no solutions - sex education is vaunted as a possible answer but the kids have got to go to school in the first instance to be exposed to the advice.

I heard today that he may not be the father and that the 15 year old girl had several other sexual partners at the time of the pregnancy... ffs

The fact that Max Clifford is involved and has suggested that the father can get up to half a million may be the reason why there are now eight putative fathers in the frame.

Shocking!!! When I was 12 I was more interested in Airfix models than girls and the girls I knew still wore vests and dark blue gym pants!!

Wasn;t there a quote (Robin Nedwell?)....

When i was young I was into model making - now I am in my 20's I am into making Models!

It's a media hoax I reckon...

i have to say one of the things that struck me, was why would a girl of 14/15 go for a 12 year old child, i do indeed remember being this age and i wouldnt even look at a boy my own age back then never mind younger. and with girls being a little more mature at that age it just seems extra wrong, i mean he dosn't even look 13 he looks more like 11. and i think the mental age gap must be bigger unless she has learning difficulties, urgh puke, its totally wrong in every way.

First thing Monday morning. All the parents need arresting.Social services need to take the child into care until an assessment of the care it can expect from it's parents. The new Grandparents are not good role models. And the girl Chantelle needs putting into care for her own safety as her parents have let her down badly.Considering the alleged number of partners she has already had. With i might add the approval of said caring parents.
Baby Maisie deserves better than this.God help her.

Interesting how you assume that being taken into care is automatically better than remaining with her natural parents.
As I said earlier in the thread, the boy is physically capable of reproducing at 13, it's purely a social taboo that he's broken. If he can, with help, make a good parent then best of luck to him. Although now that odious creep Clifford is involved I wouldn't give much for his chances.

While I agree that local authority care is unlikley to be a better option for these young parents. I can't reconcile with this naural law that if it can be done then its fine. It is a social taboo because we live in a society not the wild.

The child is here now so lets hope they will get the support that they need to become good parents, i have a cousin who has become a father at 14, he IS definatly too young mentally to cope with the responsibility and the demands of being a good parent. There is something to be said for the parent that has some, maybe not extensive life experiece, education and finacial independance having more to offer a child being brought into this society.
