Roadcc like them.

What wheels have you got? Some are designed for tubeless and so easy to set up and fit tubeless tyres whereas others are tubeless compatible which tend to be harder to set up. Could be an opportunity for new wheels:smile: Hunt are not the only option but you can get them already set up with those tyres.
Andy knows much more about it than me.

I'm just about to set my wife's bike up as tubeless. I don't know what you get in the kit but you need tubeless tape (unless your wheels already have it installed), valve and sealant. From reading forums the hardest part seems to be getting the tyre the seat properly on the rim. Soapy water helps. I'm going to try the front one tomorrow. No view on the tyres, my wifes bike has schwalbe one pro easy tubeless on.

The wheels I want to take are campag shamal ultra that will take the tyres but don’t know if it is less hassle or more if I get a puncture
Feel confident with the tyres I usually use but this is something special ain’t it !
They have a very good write up but wondered if you boys knew more
I have some hunt carbon wheels that are compatible but again not sure on carbon rims coming down - ain’t bothered about the up at the minute more worried about the down and braking / cornering

I wouldn’t take the carbon rims if they’re clinchers Lee. Just doesn’t seem worth the risk of delamination. Even though newer rims are better in this regard I don’t think it’s worth the risk.
I’ve never tried tubeless. I use tubular wheels. But if you can get them set up tubeless then I would. To me they sound a little fiddly to set up, but once you do they’re better do discend on than clinchers.
Clinchers should be fine too though to be fair. I’m sure hundreds of people use them in the Pyreneese every day.

Don't the pro's on the tours still use tubed tyres?

Those wheels come as clincher or two way fit. Only the two way are tubeless compatible

The Hunts are designed to run optimally set up tubeless.they have a set up video on their site. Are these disc wheels?

No. That’s the problem.
Looking at disc brakes bikes but if I haven’t got one by then , it will be the focus with the shamal ( 2 way- thanks Kipster ) don’t want to take the hunt wheels solely because I want them for glorious wind assisted days like today
I suppose I may be over thinking things like tommy says
I do know that even the hills around here I lose my bottle before anything else gives up !

I just had a little chuckle to myself thinking... This little four day trip of ours to the pyreneese is turning out to have some hidden costs! ^_^

I had a meal last night with the missus and some friends. None of them have much interest in cycling which is fair enough. And they couldn’t get their heads round why I have more than one set of wheels.

Are we all completely mental?!

Lee. I have been using Tubeless for several years. Any clincher wheel can take tubeless.

The advantages tubeless have for touring is that they very rarely deflate quickly, so can get you home. also very important on rapid descents tyre doesn't go pop.

Requirements
Rim tape- Stan's tape(measure inside rim space for width)
tubeless tyres-Schwalbe Pro Ones 25mm
sealant- Stan's sealant
tubeless valve. Various makes

Remove old tyres, rim tape, clean wheel inside with alcohol/brake cleaner. Fit Stan's tape smoothly while giving a good stretch whilst fitting, fit two layers of tape. Ensure it has fitted well. Use sharp tool/knife to make a small hole for valve . Fit tyre almost completely but leave small section so you can pour 75mil of Sealant before fitting last section of bead . Finally inflation, best done with air compressor . There are some devices which store air from pump to give burst of air to inflate . It is very difficult to inflate without a burst of air to seat tyre on rim(just like car tyres)

You don't need to run super high pressure once fitted 70-90psi ideal Ride bike.

The other less complicated option, just put sealant in your inner tubes or buy tubes with Sealant. This will be nearly as good for small punctures

This happened to me today, my tubular tyre got a 1cm cut, which was partially sealed. I tried to re inflate but it would not hold more than 50psi. I rode slowly to my relative more than 10 miles on this tyre
