after 3 legs

position 1479 Time 3:28:26 Bob
1253 3:25:15 Andy
382 3:09:13 Lee :notworthy:
1361 3:26:55 Dean
2757 3:45:22 Carl

plus others
I'm 3829th after three stages [4:00:23]. That puts me c. the 24th percentile - "That's fantastic", I thought.

Then I realised that lots of people haven't done all three stages. Of those that have, I'm c. the 56th percentile. More realistic, but less pleasing.

Hate to make it worse - but I assume many people are just riding it, not trying for a time

I'd think those higher in the league are trying. For those who haven't completed all 3 events so far are probably just in it for the ride so to speak.

You took it easy stage 1 then have gone for it on the other two

He is using a Bkool pro, so resistance will max out lower than real gradient. non the less 100% on a 36t crank.

Saying that i was using 39t crank--------------ahem @50%

Ahh I can see from yours and Bridgy’s post we are a bit at cross purposes. I am saying changing difficulty level doesn’t change the power you need to travel a certain incline at a certain speed and the resistance feels the same. It’s just the gearing you use to do it, the gear range , changes. You are both saying going to 50% or less on pro may mean the resistance remains making the feel of the ride more realistic- I think! If so they yes you must both be right. My bad.

I'm not sure we're totally on the same wavelength or not! The resistance DOES feel different on the same slope with the difficulty at 50% - hence the ability to use a higher gear to get up it. So in simplistic terms, with the difficulty at 50% a 6% incline feels like a 3% incline - so you ride in a higher gear appropriate to 3% incline, but Zwift takes your power and adjusts your speed to the actual 6% slope you're on. So on a Bkool if the resistance maxes out at 10% or so when set to 100%, it would now max out at 20% when set at 50% difficulty, meaning a higher range of realistic resistance (which Zwift then adjusts for). If this is what you meant, then yes we're on the same wavelength!

I am not sure I know what I meant :smile:

But I get it now.

I’m happy to confess I had my difficulty settings @ 60%, only just made it on a compact set up 12-28 cassette. This was even with my new weight of 89 kgs.

On a different note, I tried lots of different diets over the years as I’ve always struggled with will power - enjoy peroni & cake too much, but I recently read the book about sugar free diet plan and it shocked me how bad sugar is, so whilst I’m happy with losing weight more importantly I’m happier about the health benefits o; kicking sugar out of your diet.

Scary thought is - what happens when the suns out and it’s peroni time ???

I'd say that throughout the league there will be people trying their hardest, and people taking it easy.

Those with an abundance of talent can ride within their potential and still finish high in the standings.
Others can give it everything and still come near the back.

Which leads to a perpetual personal uncertainty - which do I admire more, ability or perseverance?

Those with talent will either be going for the win or high placement or treating it as a jolly. others less talented will be trying to beat their own friends or benchmark s
