Promises, promises...

I had 2 prolapsed discs, l4 and 5, 15 years or so ago and the route to recovery was greatly aided by acupuncture. Its amazing and it works.
I was / am very sceptical about things like this , but had a bit of money in pocket and time to kill , he said I need more than one treatment what remains to be seen but I cannot believe how different it feels - I told him it hurt in one spot and he said no - the pain is coming from here , when he pressed it I nearly went throw the suspended ceiling ! - stuck needles in - what felt like needles being stuck in , left me for a while and when he took them out , he pressed the spot again - nothing !
There is honestly no pain - how long for I don’t know but I had a walk around and drove home and still nothing
It’s been about for a bit so may be there is something in it ?

The Osteopath I go to has been using acupuncture and acupressure (same but no needles) for about 20 odd years. It helps release the spasm in the muscles so the manipulation of the joints is easier.

It is very rare that I need a second visit if I catch the spasm early enough, ie just before it goes full crippling back issue.

Wow! That's great:thumbsup:

True story.
I was in agony with the ruptured discs, unable to sleep etc, off work 6 months. Kings Hospital said no alternative but to fuse. I though F' that i will try anything. Referred to sports injury clinic at crystal palace and 2 staff (or 3 sometimes) would work on me trying to stretch and twist spine to get discs to move. It hurt-a lot, both during and after. They recommended acupuncture to help me cope with pain and swelling and after just 3 sessions which reduced the pain and swelling they were able to bend, twist and stretch me to get the discs, especially l4 back in place. The difference was extraordinary and a few sessions more acupuncture helped with further recovery. I am pretty sure the pins helped reduce swelling and so pain and allowed greater manipulation by the physios at the clinic.
I also vividly recall then going to see the consultant at Kings who, despite being of Chinese heritage himself, couldn't quite believe the pyhsical change and improvement.

You descended 5 seconds quicker than me despite me doing 251 watts to your 176 watts. I think you're 1kg heavier than me. All of which suggests the main difference in descending speed is weight and I probably needn't have bothered pedaling as much as I did!
Just double checked on Strava - Tuesday, on P5 and lightest wheels @ 180 watts, 10:09

Last night - Tron @ 176 watts, 9:58

11 seconds faster on Tron for ave 4 watts less.

Given it was lightest bike and wheels vs a fairly heavy bike, the diff looks marginal. Others could try but for me, I don't think I'll be doing that again

Well that's the last IRW ride this week. Took a tour from New Addington to Woldingham then to Oxted, Limpsfield and along the Pilgrims Way again to Chevening then up Starhill Road to Knockholt Pound. Then to Pratts Bottom, Green Street Green. From there I cut across to Downe, Coney Hall and along Kent Gateway back to New Addington.

35.8 miles, 3hrs 5m, 2690ft of climbing and I burnt off the Chinese and beers I had last night, 1900 calories.

Avg pwr 173
Max pwr 768
20 min pwr 218
Normalised pwr 230

How much the Cube has contributed to those power numbers I am unsure. But I did notice that my power numbers, when no assistance was used, were quite a bit better than I was expecting.

It is still a tad cold for me at the moment. When descending I'm almost getting chilled to the bone. But climbing I'm looking to open the jacket, gillet and jersey to cool down a little.

I'm going to be doing more of these rides when doing the Gran Fondo plan. I plan to replace the foundation rides with IRW rides and see how I get on.

Can you invite me as well please. Will try and finish work in time to join. Do you plan a formal "Meet" or just turn up at the same time?
I think it's meet at the spawn point

Thats a very nice route, lumpy with some long stretches uphill and when not too busy with cars really enjoyable.
