All this talk of cat systems, anyone doing the dirt series?

https://zwiftinsider.com/dirt-racing-series-s8/
Hi @mjd1988 - I was thinking of looking to join a team for that. We could both try and get into the same team? And any other B cat riders who want to join us? Similar tim to the ZRL races (6.30ish) would suit me but I'm flexible
I did it last year and have to say: It was one of the most boring racing experiences on Zwift, ever. There just weren't enough people signed up - some events had maybe a dozen riders and were an absolute bore-fest.

All that said, if we can put together a team - that would potentially make it a lot more interesting. Looking at the crowds from last year, 3 people is already a big squad  Maybe we create a team rather than joining randoms? I'm sure others would be interested in joining a race here and there.

Ah OK - I have also done it before (can't remember exactly when to be honest!) and I really enjoyed it! It was obviously similar to ZRL but the categories were better because they had the B and B+ system based on Zwiftapp rankings, and they were also more creative with the race formats and scoring than ZRL. They basically fixed most of the things most people complain about ZRL (like the wonky scoring system).

I do wonder if you'd be in a different Cat to me based on the way DIRT racing split people up Pete?

Just checked and the DIRT series I did was back in May 2023 and there were 30-40 riders in my category each race. So a bit smaller than ZRL but still enough for proper racing. I guess it must vary from series to series

You're probably right. Mine was over the summer so that must have been a factor. With this being over the next few weeks, the numbers should still be good.

Regarding categories - don't know to be honest. I'm too lazy to read the rules. @alex_cycles probably knows them by heart.

These are the categories. EMEA C is on a MONDAY at 18:15 GMT and EMEA W is on a TUESDAY at 19:15 GMT:

You're Ruby @Peter Salt and I'm Sapphire so either way we wouldn't be in the same team - unless I rode up a category or two! I haven't checked but I suspect most of the B Cat riders on here that we do ZRL with are Emerald or Sapphire

I'm only barely in ruby so easy enough to drop - would just need to do an event or two that don't suit me (e.g. flat TT). Definitely put me down as tentative :becool:

You did the summer individual one Peter, not the team series. You're comparing sheep and goats.

So the DRS EMEA leagues usually operate in single categories, but of course you are allowed to ride a higher category if you want to.
Cats are here https://www.zwiftracing.app/reference/categories

Peter is Ruby (2)
Paul is Sapphire (4)
I'm Amethyst (5) and so is Martin
Andy is Gold (7) (but I think he's a platinum really)

All the cyclechat people from ZP are on this team page https://www.zwiftracing.app/clubs/1458

I've put my details on the "Riders looking for a team" spreadsheet via the DIRT Discord. So I'll see what options come back. If any other riders who would want to ride in a Sapphire/Emerald team are interested then let me know whether Monday 18:15 or Tuesday 19:15 and I'll see if we can get into a team together.

My only big gripe with DIRT is I HATE Discord with a passion and constantly get confused by it and this is how they communicate - it's probably just me being old but

Yeah I don't find it intuitive for some reason. I suspect it is good once you get to grips with it.

I'm emerald - 1690 points which is a controversial number in norn iron as well (emerald and orange)

I really enjoyed the one dirt series I did- it had about 70 riders and I was part of a winning ABR team - really well organised but I also dislike discord. I'd be up for it especially if we could be part of a team together. I see @Girafitti potentially would be in the same cat

LOL that's rather amusing. It's one of the reasons I chose DIRT because it doesn't use FaceBook for team admin. I hate FB with a passion.
